Le secrétaire d’Etat américain, John Kerry, a jugé jeudi 1er août que l’armée égyptienne avait déposé le président Mohamed Morsi début juillet dans le but de rétablir la démocratie. M. Kerry est en visite au Pakistan et était interrogé par une télévision privée pakistanaise sur la position ambiguë des Etats-Unis face à la crise politique en Egypte depuis que le président Morsi, élu au printemps 2012, a été renversé par l’armée le 3 juillet.

The fact that the State Department still wants to avoid calling this a coup is not surprising, but Kerry’s strongly worded defense of the military takeover as “restoring democracy” is. Most surprising of all where he said it : Pakistan.
