The lost steps / los pasos perdidos
This series of photographs, taken between 1997 and 2000, shows images of uninhabited villages in different parts of Spain. In response to the book "La Lluvia Amarilla” (Yellow Rain) by Julio Llamazares, which tells the story of the last days of the last inhabitant of a village in the Aragonese Pyrenees, the idea to photograph some of these places, before their final demise, emerged. Most of these villages are in areas of difficult access and harsh climates. After each winter, the houses are a little bit more dilapidated and overgrown. In a few years many of them will completely disappear, sinking into the earth from which they were born, thus closing a strange and wicked circle of life.
