#Michael_Ford’s Homeplace : #Mississippi in the #1970s
December 1971 was not an auspicious time for a #Yankee to venture to Mississippi in a cherry-red Volkswagen microbus emblazoned with a peace sign. The bloody murders there of Medgar Evers and other casualties of the civil rights movement were still fresh stains on the divided landscape of the South. But, full of doubt, the filmmaker Michael Ford packed his young family in the VW for an obligatory visit to his in-laws in northern Mississippi.
