Dans De Facto, publié par l’Institut Convergences Migrations, François Héran (démographe) publie un graphique* fort intéressant, réalisé à partir des données de stocks de migrants internationaux (2018) des Nations unies.

Les premières lignes indiquent que : « Le graphique remet en perspective les migrations africaines dans l’ensemble mondial des diasporas. Il ne s’agit pas de flux annuels mais d’effectifs accumulés au fil du temps (« international migrant stock » [...] ».

*Il s’agit en fait de la seconde version d’un graphe de flux, désormais plaqué sur un fond de carte ; l’esthétique de la figure a également été modifiée.

South-South migration flows (across developing countries) continued to grow compared to South-North movements (from developing to developed countries): in 2015, 90.2 million international migrants born in developing countries resided in other countries in the Global South, while 85.3 million born in the South resided in countries in the Global North.

Gaza – the refugee city
This ambitious analysis by Liam Duffy and Mai Kjølsen unveils the sheer impossibility of a city that is, as a matter of fact, the world’s largest refugee camp – an isolated and heteronomous high density territory that is populated almost exclusively by displaced persons and their children and children’s children. Social circumstances such as (un)employment, poverty and education are addressed and connected to relevant demographic topics such as fertility and conflict. The final report was submitted in the form of a “demographic cluster bomb”, filled with neatly rolled and bound papers for each chapter.

Très jolie représentation du volume des flux migratoires dans le monde. C’est intéressant à la fois politiquement (on y voit que la légende d’une « invasion migratoire » de la France est... une légende, et que la grande majorité des migrations sont entre pays pauvres, notamment en Afrique) et c’est aussi intéressant techniquement car ce n’était pas trivial de représenter ces flux de manière simple et interactive.
