près le succès des 700 films rares et gratuits disponibles ici, nous avons trouvé un nouveau trésor, offert à tous, encore une fois. Ce trésor renferme rien de moins que 85000 films historiques offerts par Pathé British. On peut trouver par exemple le bombardement d’Hiroshima, la marche de Neil Armstrong sur la lune, l’enterrement de la reine Victoria, le vol transatlantique de Lindbergh ou encore le premier discours de Hitler en devenant le chancelier allemand en 1933.

Autrement dit, les archives vont de 1896 à 1976 et c’est une mine d’images, contenant des films représentants les moments les plus importants de ces 100 dernières années. C’est une folie sans fin pour les cinéphiles, et les amoureux de l’histoire.
Regardez par exemple, la vidéo où Arnold Schwarzenegger remporte Mr Universe en 1969 ou le mariage d’Elvis Presley ou le premier overboard, encore l’interview des survivants du Titanic.
Au final, c’est un voyage dans le passé qui finalement nous en apprend beaucoup sur notre présent.

With vastly superior numbers and the use of artillery, the British army quickly suppressed the Rising, and Pearse agreed to an unconditional surrender on Saturday 29 April. Most of the leaders were executed following courts-martial, but the Rising succeeded in bringing physical force republicanism back to the forefront of Irish politics.

This week, the company, now an archive, is turning over its entire collection — over 85,000 historical films – to YouTube.

The archive — which spans from 1896 to 1976 – is a goldmine of footage, containing movies of some of the most important moments of the last 100 years. It’s a treasure trove for film buffs, culture nerds and history mavens everywhere.

But the really intriguing part of the archive is seeing all the ephemera from the 20th Century, the stuff that really makes the past feel like a foreign country – the weird hairstyles, the way a city street looked, the breathtakingly casual sexism and racism. There’s a rush in seeing history come alive. Case in point, this documentary from 1967 about the wonders to be found in a surprisingly monochrome Virginia.
