Ashraf Rifi, turn yourself in !

Accessoirement, l’idée de taxer à 100% les centres balnéaires construits sans autorisation, qui a circulé il y a quelques semaines, est certainement à aborder sous l’angle de l’implication du nouveau ministre de la Justice dans les constructions en béton armé sur les côtes du Nord. Mais j’ignore dans quel sens (lui nuire ou lui profiter).

Although the ISF is in charge of protecting public property, the Lebanese recount countless stories about the corruption of the ISF, which sometimes is even protecting violators. Parties within the government have even called to hold the ISF command accountable, while some rumors suggested that Rifi is involved in protecting violations of public properties just south of the northern coast.

Though Rifi insists on denying having any financial interests in touristic resorts built on public property in the north, despite accusations that some of his relatives are part of such projects, former Public Works Minister Ghazi al-Aridi had some serious reservations about General Rifi’s performance.

Aridi also opposed extending Rifi’s mandate as commander of the ISF due to his refusal to remove some illegal buildings violating public property or banning new construction on public property. It was later revealed that Aridi had approved a complaint (in Arabic) by the ministry regarding the non-compliance of Rifi and the ISF.
