“We are planning to build 13 airfields, an air-ground firing range, as well as ten radar and vectoring posts,” Lt. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Management Center, said to RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
He argues the installations is needed to safeguard Russia’s military security in the Arctic region.

Izvestia reports on Wednesday that construction work for military facilities is already under way at Novaya Zemlya and other locations along the Arctic coast.
