Abu Ahmad Fouad, deputy secretary-general of the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was among the initial supporters of the formation of armed groups and the opening of new fronts to fight Israel. On Feb. 6, he asked that fronts be opened, secretly and publicly, for all resistance powers from all Arab states — not only Al-Qassam.
Abu Imad al-Rifai, the Islamic Jihad representative in Lebanon who’s Hezbollah’s trusted ally, confirmed on Feb. 10 that Palestinian mobilization to activate armed activities inside refugee camps requires coordination with Lebanese parties. This is in light of the sectarian structure of Lebanon, which is the main obstacle stopping Palestinians from resisting the occupation, according to Rifai.
Hamas is well aware that Lebanon is still scarred from the military Palestinian presence during the 1970s and 1980s, namely the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). During this period, Israel attacked Lebanon because of the Palestinian resistance against Israeli settlements. Will the Lebanese state accept history to repeat itself, but this time with Hamas?
