But then I will ask “are we really looking elsewhere than big companies, are we trying to find other clients or sources of income? Or aren’t we because only those type of clients can offer the huge visibility we’re dying for because we are egocentric pricks?”. It hurts, I know. But do you remember all those slides about taking risks, not being afraid of failure, assuming nothing, always reinventing? Wouldn’t be the biggest risk of all to say “fuck you” to AOL / Nike / Samsung?
What has lifestyle to do with all of this? The fact that design and the designer job is more and more depicted for its “à côtés” is the sign that we are deriving from the function to the form. The function of our job is becoming less and less important, as long as we seem to have fun, travel the world and wear fancy tshirts. We are documenting the way we work in an attempt to forget for who we work.
