Le PDG d’Orange a annoncé mercredi avoir l’intention de revoir les liens de sa compagnie avec l’opérateur israélien Partner, dont les activités dans les territoires palestiniens avaient été récemment critiquées par des ONG, mais sans exposer Orange à « des risques énormes ».
Fin mai, cinq ONG et deux syndicats, dont CCFD-Terre Solidaire, l’Association France Palestine Solidarité et la CGT, avaient demandé à Orange « de communiquer publiquement sa volonté de désengagement et de dénoncer les atteintes aux droits humains commises par Partner ».

Selon un rapport de ces organisations, Orange aurait un accord avec Partner lui permettant d’utiliser « la marque et l’image d’Orange en échange d’une redevance ». Or ce rapport soutenait que Partner, en exerçant des activités économiques « dans les colonies israéliennes contribuerait à leur viabilité économique et à leur maintien, et contribuerait ainsi à perpétuer une situation considérée comme illégale par la communauté internationale ».
Orange avait cependant indiqué qu’il n’était « pas opérateur en Israël », ne détenait « aucune action ou droit de vote de Partner », et n’avait « aucune influence dans sa gestion et sa stratégie. »
Le groupe avait expliqué que le contrat de licence de marque, « signé par le propriétaire de l’époque, a été transmis à France Télécom en 2000 lors de l’acquisition de la marque. »
Mais mercredi, Stéphane Richard, le PDG d’Orange, a déclaré : « notre intention est de nous retirer d’Israël ».
« Cela va prendre du temps [mais] nous allons certainement le faire », a-t-il ajouté en anglais lors d’une conférence de presse au Caire, où il effectue une visite auprès de l’opérateur égyptien Mobinil, dont l’entreprise française est actionnaire à près de 100%.
« Je suis prêt à abandonner demain matin » les liens avec Partner mais « sans exposer Orange à des risques énormes » sur le plan légal ou financier, a précisé M. Richard.
Selon son site internet, Partner Communications Company compte 2,77 millions d’abonnés en Israël, soit une part de marché de 28%.
