    14.10.2016 - UNESCOPRESS
    http://www.unesco.org/new/fr/media-services/single-view/news/statement_by_the_director_general_of_unesco_on_the_old_city-1

  • Palestinian gunman shot dead after killing 2, injuring several in Jerusalem attack

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — An Israeli police officer and an Israeli woman were shot dead and at least five others were injured in a drive-by shooting near the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah Sunday morning. The gunman, a native of occupied East Jerusalem, was shot and killed by Israeli police at the scene.

The shooting attack came a day after the gunman told Ma’an that he intended to turn himself in to serve a prison sentence, after he was charged with assaulting an Israeli police officer in 2013.

According to a statement by Israeli police spokesperson Luba al-Samri, the gunman first opened fire across from the regional Israeli police headquarters while he sped towards the Ammunition Hill light rail station, critically injuring a 60-year-old woman, identified by Israeli media as Levanah Malichi, who later succumbed to her injuries after receiving treatment in a hospital. A man was also moderately injured at the same site.

The gunman then continued toward a junction on the other side of the police station, where he opened fire at a woman driving in her car, moderately to seriously injuring her, al-Samri added.

The assailant then fled toward Sheikh Jarrah as Israeli police special forces chased him, and he opened fire at them, critically injuring one policeman and lightly injuring another. The critically injured policeman, identified in Israeli media as First Sergeant Yosef Kirme, succumbed to his wounds in the hospital later in the day. Border police officers then arrived to the scene, shooting and killing the assailant.

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) — The slain gunman responsible for a shooting attack in occupied East Jerusalem Sunday morning that left two Israelis killed and several injured told Ma’an the day before the shooting that he was planning on turning himself in to Israeli authorities to serve a prison sentence for prior charges.

Misbah Abu Sbeih , 39, from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, who also lived in the village of al-Ram, told Ma’an via telephone Saturday that he had decided to turn himself into the Israeli Ramla prison at 10 a.m. on Sunday to serve a four-month prison sentence for allegedly assaulting an Israeli police officer.

He said he was detained from the Bab Hutta area in the Old City outside of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in 2013 after being accused of the assault, but was released the same day.

According to Abu Sbeih, the case was closed, and he later traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah pilgrimage.

However, the case against him was unexpectedly reopened in December 2015, shortly after he was released for spending about a year in prison on separate charges of “incitement” for Facebook posts.

Among the posts he was imprisoned for were: “We sacrifice our souls and our blood for you Al-Aqsa,” and, “we sacrifice our children for Al-Aqsa.”

BREAKING: IDF Commander Nominated to be Chief of Staff Tolerated 1967 War Crimes
September 16, 2016 By Richard Silverstein
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2016/09/16/idf-commander-nominated-chief-staff-commanded-unit-murdered-50-e

(...) Benn’s story today concerns the massacre at a battle called Ras al Sudr (Hebrew) in the Egyptian Sinai during the 1967 War (all of this information is censored from Benn’s report. After the battle, “tens” (an earlier Haaretz report speaks of the remains of 52 or 62, depending on the source, Egyptian soldiers uncovered) of disarmed Egyptian soldiers were herded into an enclosed inner courtyard, where they were fed. The Israelis conversed with them about their respective military service. But this unit prepared to leave for another mission and was replaced by a second unit. This force refused to accept the prisoners and the first unit, which was an armored corps, had no logistical means of transporting them. Further, the entire Israeli battle plan was based on lightning fast tank attack and the troops could not afford to be bogged down with prisoners.

At that point, the tank commander of the original unit felt he had no choice but to kill the prisoners. They were lined up, ordered to face the wall, then summarily executed. The Egyptian commanding officer turned to flee and was hunted down by soldiers from the relief unit, who followed him in a jeep and shot him to death as well. All the bodies were buried on the spot by a bulldozer.

The story was reported to Benn by two witnesses to the killings. The first told the journalist that he had refused his superior’s order to kill the captives because he had earlier promised them they would not be killed. Though the officer threatened to bring him up on charges if he failed to comply, the soldier still refused. Then another soldier volunteered to carry out the illegal order, in which he was joined by three others.(...)

In another social media story, #Facebook Israel hired former PMO staffer and current foreign ministry PR flack, Jordana Cutler. She will be a liaison for Facebook with the government. Her hiring appears to be a sop thrown to Internal Security Minister Gil Erdan, who threatened to submit a Knesset bill which to hold a Facebook responsible for anti-#Israel content.

Cutler will presumably be the right wing government’s eyes and ears inside Facebook and an internal lobbyist for ultra-nationalism inside the company.

Israel has stepped up its monitoring of social media as have other authoritarian nations like China, Kuwait, Dubai and Qatar. It arrested Palestinians who have posted material supporting resistance to #Occupation. If Cutler’s hiring means Israel expects Facebook to preemptively monitor and censure such content, then the company may face the wrath of users both in Israel and worldwide.

  • Google Censors Searches Involving Israeli Double Agent, Boris Krasny
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2015/12/07/google-censors-searches-involving-israeli-double-agent-boris-kra

Israel’s democracy watchdog, 7th Eye, reports that Google’s Israel subsidiary, Google.co.il, is censoring search results related to Boris Krasny, the Israeli double agent originally recruited by the KGB in the 1970s. Krasny exploited his status as a Soviet agent in Israel to betray Russia’s longest-serving and most valuable spy in Israel, Marcus Klingberg. Neither of these facts, based on original reporting first published here, may be reported by the Israeli media. In fact, Globes credited me by name for reporting the story (without mentioning my blog name, Krasny’s name, or linking to my stories) and the military censor forced the removal of the article. An earlier 7th Eye article by the same reporter didn’t even mention my name. It attributed reports about Krasny’s identity to “foreign bloggers.”

But this new development is both ominous and (almost) unprecedented. As 7th Eye describes it, multiple searches involving Krasny’s name displayed messages noting that the results had been censored due to a “legal request”.

  • Syrian Killed in Attack by Golani Druze Was Islamist Fighter, Not Civilian as IDF Claimed
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2015/06/26/syrian-killed-in-attack-by-golani-druze-was-islamist-fighter-not

Israel regularly evacuates Islamist fighters wounded in the fighting against the regime in the region. Angry local Druze intercepted an IDF ambulance carrying two wounded Syrians, whom the IDF claimed were civilians. They beat the army medics, who were forced to flee. They then beat one of the wounded Syrians to death and severely wounded the other, before the authorities intervened and rescued him.

Munther Khalil: the IDF’s Faux Syrian “Civilian”

Syrian Islamists calling themselves the Revolutionary Command Council in Quneitra and the Golan, published a Facebook memorial to the victim who was killed in the attack. The page says in Arabic:

Munther Khalil – the wounded man who was killed by Druze people from Majdal Shams in Israel

May Allah have mercy on you, and accept you as one of the Shahids

His picture features him brandishing a gun in full rebel garb. He is clearly not a civilian.

    (Janvier 2015)

IDF Takes Control (Tacitly) of Syrian Golan
by RICHARD SILVERSTEIN on MAY 3, 2015
    in MIDEAST PEACE
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2015/05/03/idf-maintains-control-of-syrian-golan

Contrary to Israeli claims (including by Fishman himself) that this doesn’t constitute “taking sides” or intervening in the civil war, of course it does. When you flick a match into an oil drum it doesn’t matter that the match is very small and the drum very big. All it takes is a small spark. Therefore, any significant interference in Syria’s internal affairs is an intervention and taking sides against Assad and for the Islamists. Further, as my last post indicated, Israel has both acted affirmatively on behalf of the al Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra and refused to punish ISIS for mortar fire that struck Israeli-occupied territory. Thus, Fishman’s title: Israel is up to its neck with Islamist rebels.

The Israeli journalist offers further proof of Israeli control of the Syrian battleground by noting in the original Hebrew version of his article ( which curiously was omitted in the English translation ) that there are five Syrian Druze villages in the northern Golan. Despite the fact that they are strong supporters of the Assad regime, Syrian rebels have not attacked them. In fact, their lands are among the last that have remained untouched in the region of those which do support the government.

They are protected, according to a report in a Lebanese media outlet, by an agreement between the IDF and Druze leaders in Israeli-occupied Golan. A few months before outgoing chief of staff Benny Gantz left his post, he visited with the elders of the Druze community. There he promised them that their relatives in Syria’s Druze villages would not be harmed.

Fishman notes that whether or not the report is true, in practice this is what is happening. He continues:

Such a pledge could only be made by someone in a position to control the [battle]field.

This makes Israel an aggressive, interventionist state. We’ve known this for decades based on Israel’s willingness to pre-emptively attack enemies in war and carve up their territory and place it under control of vassals like the South Lebanon Army. But Syria offers further proof that Israel is a rogue state which refuses to acknowledge its behavior for what it is.

Despite Fishman’s claims that Israel’s intervention is relatively benign, Israel has long passed that point.

  • Israel Secretly Arrests Golani Druze, Accusing Him of Exposing Rebel-IDF Collaboration
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2015/02/28/israel-secretly-arrests-golani-druze-accusing-him-of-exposing-al

Though Israeli security services haven’t offered any reason for his arrest, it’s likely they’re angered because a week ago he followed Syrian rebels to a meeting inside Israeli-occupied territory. The rebels met with IDF forces who’ve previously been shown to receive logistical and intelligence support from Israel in previous reports here and in Israel and foreign media. Al Maket filmed a video while the meeting was underway, in which he described what he saw and offered it to Syrian TV. It was aired to the entire nation and likely monitored by Israeli security.

The Shin Bet doesn’t want any further leaks about such collaboration because it allows the Syrian regime to paint the rebels as Israeli stooges.

      Par Richard Silverstein – Le 3 mars 2015 – Source globalresearch.ca
      http://lesakerfrancophone.net/larmee-israelienne-soutient-les-rebelles-de-lopposition-syrienne

    http://www.ujfp.org/spip.php?article3655

    25 novembre 2014

  • The Ringworm Scandal: When Israeli Doctors Killed Tens of Thousands of Arab Children Tikun-Olam Tikun Olam-

    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/10/12/the-ringworm-scandal-when-israeli-doctors-killed-tens-of-thousan

There are a number of readers who are either confused or reading this post sloppily, including the headline. To clarify: there is a link to a Jonathan Cook piece at the end of this post which notes that the State of Israel irradiated both Arab Jewish and Palestinian children for ringworm. Hence the title of this post which uses the inclusive term, “Arab,” by which I include both Jewish and Palestinian children.

There are also those who claim that radiation was a standard treatment for ringworm inside and outside Israel in the 1950s. This too misconstrues the argument put forward in the film and here. While radiation may’ve been considered suitable for ringworm in that era, no one killed children with radiation outside of Israel. The dosage set by Dr. Sheba was far too high and the X-ray machines he used were outmoded and hence the dosage administered could not be calibrated accurately or administered suitably.

▶ The Ringworm Children testing of large radiation doses on humans. - YouTube
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMp1tef4lg4

directed by David Belhassen and Asher Hemias. The documentary won the award for “Best Documentary” at the Haifa International Film Festival and was featured as a documentary at the Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles in 2007.

It is claimed in the documentary that the X-ray radiation used on the children was thousands of times beyond the maximum recommended dose and it is suggested that the program was funded by the United States in order to test the effects of large radiation doses on humans.

In fact, the treatment in Israel was the same that was used elsewhere in the world.

The documented dosages given to the Israeli children were similar to (if not less than) that administered to children treated for ringworm at New York University Hospital between 1940 and 1959.

A study from the early 1950s found X-ray treatment effective in almost all cases of ringworm.
The documentary alleges that 100,000 children were irradiated, and that 6,000 of them died shortly after receiving treatment. Many of the ’ringworm children’ later developed cancer, and in 1994 the Knesset passed a law mandating the Israeli government to provide them with compensation

    http://www.rfi.fr/moyen-orient/20140908-plus-israeliens-envisagent-quitter-le-pays

Israel will increasingly become a poorer, more ultra-Orthodox, more settler, Mizrahi society (though of course Mizrahim will be emigrating as well). With this will come a rising tide of hatred, intolerance, ethnic division, and religious extremism. The IDF, already dominated by Orthodox-settler commanders, will become more so. If you think present-day Israel is extreme, the future promises even worse.

Young people with ambition, and their lives and families ahead of them, understand that there is little hope that things can change for the better. Foreign cities beckon and offer the pluralism, opportunity, freedom, tolerance and democracy that Israel lacks. A more reasoned, rhetorically articulate defense of emigration is offered in this Haaretz op-ed by Rogel Alpher.

To be clear, I’m not celebrating this development. I don’t want to see Israel become a backwater, a dysfunctional state. In fact, I’d prefer to see Israel as a thriving, vibrant multi-cultural oasis with opportunities for all and welcoming to all. But I must describe what I see, not what I wished I’d see. That’s the difference between me and liberal Zionists. They see what they think is there or what should be there. Not what is.

  • #Gaza War, Day 22: 10 IDF Soldiers Killed Today, 1,100 Palestinians Killed Overall Tikun-Olam Tikun Olam-
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/07/28/gaza-war-day-22-10-idf-soldiers-killed-today-1100-palestinians-k

#Eran_Efrati, an activist with Anarchists Against the Wall, is in the Israel-Gaza theater. He published this astonishing post in Facebook. As you read it keep in mind that he’s talking about the killing of 7 IDF soldiers in an outdated APC who died after an anti-tank shell struck their vehicle. The deaths of so many just after the land invasion began, was a deep shock to the Israeli nation and especially their comrades. Instead of taking it out on the battlefield against Palestinian fighters, the IDF took it out on the most vulnerable, Palestinian civilians, who were most visible and available targets:

Eran Efrati - In recent weeks I was on the border of #Gaza...
    https://www.facebook.com/eran.efrati.9/posts/10204269146351996

In recent weeks I was on the border of Gaza and getting reports from soldiers in the Gaza Strip who leak information out to me.

I am in the process of publication of two big stories in major U.S. newspapers, but there are some things I can share with you right now: Soldiers in two different units inside Gaza leaked information about the murdering of Palestinians by sniper fire in Shuja’iyya neighborhood as punishment for the death of soldiers in their units. (...)

Today I can report that the official command that was handed down to the soldiers in Shujaiyya was to capture Palestinian homes as outposts. From these posts, the soldiers drew an imaginary red line, and amongst themselves decided to shoot to death anyone who crosses it. Anyone crossing the line was defined as a threat to their outposts, and was thus deemed a legitimate target. This was the official reasoning inside the units. I was told that the unofficial reason was to enable the soldiers to take out their frustrations and pain at losing their fellow soldiers (something that for years the IDF has not faced during its operations in Gaza and the West Bank), out on the Palestinian refugees in the neighborhood. Under the pretext of the so-called “security threat” soldiers were directed to carry out a pre-planned attack of revenge on Palestinian civilians.

These stories join many other similar ones that Amira Hass and I investigated in Operation Cast Lead. The death toll that continues to rise is steadily reaching the numbers of the massacre of 2009.

More than 1,100 have been killed in Gaza, at least 80 percent of them civilians. Today it is cleared for publication that at least 4 soldiers were killed by a rocket in a gathering area outside of Gaza, and another soldier was killed in Gaza. They join 43 soldiers that have already been killed. We know that more acts of revenge will come soon and it is important that we not stay silent. This is the time to take to the streets and to social media. Demand from your representative wherever you are to stop supporting this massacre and to immediately boycott the state of Israel until the occupation ends, the blockade is lifted and Palestinians will be free. We all want to be in the right place at the right time when history knocks on our door, and history is knocking in Gaza right now. You need to decide on which side you want to go down in history.

  • Ronen Bergman Confirms IDF Soldier Deliberately Killed by His Own
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/07/27/ronen-bergman-confirms-idf-soldier-deliberately-killed-by-his-ow

Ronen Bergman was interviewed on Tel Aviv radio yesterday and confirmed my report that Sgt. Guy Levy was killed by the IDF in order to prevent his capture by Hamas fighters during a battle in Gaza. The report reads:

…Levy was killed in Gaza in the course of a kidnap [sic] attempt. IDF soldiers succeeded in preventing the kidnapping and killed one terrorist [sic] but Levy too was killed in the midst of the attempt to prevent it.

While I’m grateful to Bergman for affirming the accuracy of my prior report. I’m disturbed by the interview (audio) between Bergman and radio show host, Guy Zohar. At no point, do either of them doubt or question the moral basis for the Hannibal Directive. There seems a Spartan sense of sacrifice among Israelis that part of the cost of serving in the army is that your own brothers may be forced to kill you for the greater good of the nation.

There is something deeply troubling, even demented about such a regulation. I could perhaps understand it in ancient Sparta; or even among the diehard Japanese kamikaze fighters during World War II. But in a country that prides itself as being the equal of any western democratic nation? No.

Another bizarre aspect of this report is that the text that appeared on the radio station website above was censored (removed), presumably by the IDF censor. But the audio of the interview itself remains, uncensored. The “logic” of censorship. Go figure.

    • Hannibal Directive
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannibal_Directive

The background to the formulation of the directive was the capture of two Israeli soldiers during a Hizbullah ambush in south Lebanon in June 1986. Both soldiers presumably died during the attack and their bodies were returned to Israel in an exchange with Hizbullah in 1996. The authors of the order were the three top officers of the IDF Northern Command, Major General Yossi Peled, the command’s operations officer, Colonel Gabi Ashkenazi, and its intelligence officer, Colonel Yaakov Amidror.[3]

In a rare interview by one of the authors of the directive, Yossi Peled (later a cabinet minister) denied that it implied a blanket order to kill Israeli soldiers rather than let them be captured by enemy forces. The order only allowed the army to risk the life of a captured soldier, not to take it. "I wouldn’t drop a one-ton bomb on the vehicle, but I would hit it with a tank shell”, Peled was quoted saying. He added that he personally “would rather be shot than fall into Hizbullah captivity.”[3]

      Article de 2011

The Hannibal Protocol has been highly controversial since its introduction in the late 1980s, after a few incidents in Israel’s security zone in south Lebanon. It allows commanders to take whatever action is necessary, even at the risk of endangering the life of an abducted soldier, to foil the abduction. The policy was suspended in the last decade due to opposition from the public and reservist soldiers.

  • Israeli Police Falsely Report Murdered Palestinian Boy Was Gay, Flooding Social Media with Disinformation
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/07/02/israeli-police-plant-false-story-murdered-palestinian-boy-was-ga

Yesterday night, I noticed several Israeli Facebook users infecting my feed with false claims that Mohamed Abu Khdeir, the 16 year-old who was murdered by suspected Jewish terrorists, was killed in an honor crime because he was gay. With the help of an Israeli friend, I traced the rumor to, of all places, the Israeli police (Hebrew). They leaked (Hebrew) this false information to the media, which dutifully reported it as if it was true (it wasn’t). The police claim (made anonymously of course) that it had “information” Abu Khdeir was gay was false. But this calumny spread like the wind, and a credulous Israeli public eager to believe the worst of Palestinians and refusing to take any responsibility for their own brethren spilling the blood of a Palestinian, took to social media like a raging plague and spread this bile everywhere.

  • Saudi Arabia Finances Most of Israel’s Weapons Build-Up Against Iran Tikun-Olam Tikun Olam-
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/03/08/saudi-arabia-finances-most-of-israels-weapons-build-up-against-i

Over the past months, the level of intense cooperation between Israel and Saudi Arabia in targeting Iran has become clear. I’ve posted here http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2013/11/17/israel-saudi-arabia-threaten-war-as-west-prepares-for-iran-nucle about secret meetings between top Israeli and Saudi intelligence figures which have allowed coordination of the campaigns involving both Syria and Iran. But Shalom Yerushalmi, writing in Maariv, dropped an even more amazing bombshell.

Saudi Arabia isn’t just coordinating its own intelligence efforts with Israel. It’s actually financing a good deal of Israel’s very expensive campaign against Iran. As you know, this has involved massive sabotage against IRG missile bases, the assassination of five nuclear scientists, the creation of a series of computer cyberweapons like Stuxnet and Flame. It may also conceivably involve an entire class of electronic and conventional weapons that could be used in a full-scale attack on Iran. Who knows, this might even include the sorts of bunker buster bombs only the U.S. currently has access to, which could penetrate the Fordo facility. It might include scores more super-tankers which could provide the fuel necessary for Israeli planes to make it to Iran and return. All of this is expensive. Very expensive.

Here is how Yerushalmi referred to Bibi’s thinking on the matter as expressed in his recent Aipac speech:

Netanyahu spoke there, for the first time in his life, about the benefits of peace, the prosperity that will follow, about the possibility that Arab states, which today maintain better relations with us than those in the European Union, but in private, will do so publicly if we only reach an agreement with the Palestinians. Netanyahu referred almost certainly to Saudi Arabia, which finances the expenses of the enormous campaign which we are conducting against Iran.

In the past, I’ve noted that George Bush allocated $400-million in 2007 for just such sabotage directed against Iran. I presumed that a good deal of that funding might end up supporting similar sorts of Israeli efforts. It’s possible that the new Obama administration cut off this funding after assuming office in 2008. Whatever the reason, Saudi Arabia is now a critical funder of Israel’s military effort against Iran.

The question is how far is Saudi Arabia willing to go. If Bibi ever decided to launch an attack, would the Sunni nation fund that as well? The answer seems clearly to be yes.

The next question is, given there is airtight military censorship in Israel, why did the censor allow Maariv to publish this? Either someone was asleep at the switch or the IDF and Israel’s political and intelligence officials want the world to know of the Saudi-Israeli effort. Who specifically do they want to know? Obama, of course. In the event the nuclear talks go south, Bibi wants Obama to know there’s a new Sugar Daddy in town. No longer will Israel have only the U.S. to rely on if it decides to go to war. Saudi Arabia will be standing right behind.

This isn’t the first time that foreign sources played a major role in subsidizing critical Israeli efforts to develop such game-changing weapons systems. In the early 1960s, Abraham Feinberg, a wealthy American Jew whose name now graces a building a Brandeis University, coordinated a major fundraising effort on behalf of Israeli Prime Minister Ben Gurion. As a result, American Jews played an instrumental role in paying for Israel’s first nuclear weapons.

Frankly, I don’t think this news substantially alters the military calculus. Israel, even with unlimited funding, still can’t muster the weapons and armaments it would need to do the job properly. That will take time. But Israel isn’t going to war tomorrow. This news reported in Maariv is presumably Bibi playing one card from his hand. It’s an attempt to warn the president that the U.S. is no longer the only game in town. Personally, it’s the sort of huffing and puffing that I can’t imagine plays well in Washington. But it’s the way Bibi plays the game.

  • Israeli Cabinet Voted to Assassinate #Arafat Year Before He Died Tikun-Olam Tikun Olam-
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/02/24/israeli-cabinet-voted-to-assassinate-arafat-year-before-he-died

The Gatekeepers, originally a documentary film and now a book, continues to offer a wealth of inside information about the Israeli national security apparatus. The latest tidbit an Israeli friend gleaned is this September 2003 Yediot article recounting the decisions made during an Israeli security cabinet meeting chaired by then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon:

He Will Be Gotten Rid Of

The cabinet decision of last night to get rid of Yasser Arafat has no immediate impact since the timing has not been determined. Sharon, who formulated the decision [during the meeting], preferred to leave the matter vague and indeterminate between expulsion or assassination. The decision was supported by every member of the [security] cabinet except for Interior Minister Poraz, who opposed.

Within 14 months of this meeting, Arafat was dead. It is about as clear as anything can be that the cabinet voted to give Sharon carte blanche to determine where, how and when to remove Arafat as a threat to Israel. Sharon could choose life (in exile) or death. We know the result. It almost doesn’t matter whether Swiss forensic scientists can prove he was poisoned and by whom. We know who did it. We just don’t know precisely how he achieved the result.

There is a wealth of circumstantial evidence offered by an Israeli confidant of Sharon and others arguing that Sharon intended to kill Arafat. This news report adds another piece to the puzzle.

  • Businessman alleges #Canada gave Israeli spy new identity
    http://www.torontosun.com/2014/02/15/businessman-alleges-canada-gave-israeli-spy-new-identity

MONTREAL — Passport Canada secretly supplied a new identity and passport to a #Mossad agent living in Canada after the Israeli spy participated in the 2010 plot to kill a leader of terrorist group Hamas in a #Dubai hotel, a Montreal businessman has alleged.

Mysterious Canadian-Iranian businessman Arian Azarbar made the startling allegations in an exclusive interview with QMI Agency.

Azarbar says he learned about the top secret operation during a relationship he had with Trina Kennedy, a senior national security investigator at Passport Canada.

    (...)

Alexis Pavelich, a spokesman for Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander (responsible for Passport Canada), did not answer any questions about Azarbar’s allegations.

QMI Agency reported Friday that Alexander ordered an internal probe and Kennedy had been relieved of her duties after Azarbar made a series of allegations about her to federal authorities.

Canada Welcomes Mossad Assassin, Offers Him New Identity
    http://www.richardsilverstein.com/2014/02/16/canada-welcomes-mossad-assassin-offers-him-new-identity

I’ve confirmed that the story is accurate through my own Israeli source. When asked, he said it would be fruitless even to try to deny it since the story came straight from the horse’s mouth (Canadian intelligence). There are many astonishing aspects of this story. First, in light of Israel cloning passports of dual citizens of nations like France, Ireland, Australia and the UK, it didn’t even have to take the trouble with Canada. That nation perpetrated the identity fraud on Israel’s behalf. Can you imagine a country creating a fake identity for an intelligence agent of a foreign country? It beggars belief. Second, this means that Canada doesn’t tolerate the presence of Mossad agents on its soil, it welcomes them. A country like the U.S. begrudgingly accepts that Israel is the third most intensive intelligence presence inside the U.S.. But not Canada. It’s motto is the old Monty Hall shout-out to the TV prize winner: “come on down!”
