A 35 percent jump in nicotine poisonings was observed among children from birth to 5 years old between 2013 and 2014, according to the Minnesota Poison Control System. The year before, a similar bump was observed as e-cigarette usage continued a rise of its own.
With increased popularity comes increased chances of poisonings, especially as parents leave the e-juice packages that go into e-cigarettes within reach of children, said Jon Cole, medical director at the Minnesota Poison Control System.
The problem isn’t helped by e-cigarettes’ candy-flavored smell and look.
