The Payback est le 37ème album studio de James Brown. L’album est sorti en décembre 1973, chez Polydor Records. Il devait à l’origine devenir la bande originale du film de blaxploitation Hell Up in Harlem , mais il a été rejeté par les producteurs du film, qui l’ont considéré comme « la même vieille histoire de James Brown ». Il a été numéro 1 du classement des albums de soul pendant deux semaines et s’est retrouvé dans le Top 40 des albums de pop. C’était le seul album studio de Brown à être certifié or.

Time Is Running Out Fast sixième morceau de l’album que je viens de me procurer chez OCD pour 8 balles et c’est celui que je préfère. Cela dit, cet opus du godfather est tellement bon qu’il est difficile de dissocier les morceaux. c’est le plus long : 12’37 sur les huit qui compose The payback qui s’étire sur près de 70 minutes.
Le vendeur d’OCD le classe dans le top 10, voire 5 du Godfather of Soul. Moi je le classe number one, facile c’est le seul que je possède de James Brown. Celui-ci aussi Life On Planet Groove Maceo Parker (92) mais sans Mr Dynamite.
