Ce blog héberge une série de six documentaires sonores, composés d’entretiens, d’archives et de musiques, qui racontent l’expérience politique du réseau Rock against police.

A la fin des années 70, dans un contexte de crise économique et de chômage, les expulsions de jeunes immigrés et les meurtres en banlieue, qu’ils soient commis par des flics ou des beaufs, se multiplient. Un réseau informel et fluctuant se constitue pour réagir collectivement en organisant une série de concerts Rock against police au beau milieu des cités. De 1980 à 1983, l’initiative fait tâche d’huile. Plusieurs concerts sont organisés en région parisienne : Paris, Vitry, Nanterre, Cergy, Argenteuil. L’idée est également reprise par d’autres groupes en France, notamment à Marseille, Saint Dizier, et Lyon avec les concerts organisés par Zâama d’banlieue.

Contrairement aux grands concerts caritatifs des années 1980, RAR n’est pas UN grand festival, mais des dizaines de concerts dans les années 1976 à 1981, avec selon les concerts, la participation de Matumbi, The Clash, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Elvis Costello, Stiff Little Fingers, Buzzcocks, The Fall, Sham 69, Pete Townshend, The Specials, Generation X, Misty In Roots, Tom Robinson, X-Ray Spex, Jimmy Pursey, Patrik Fitzgerald, Graham Parker, Exodus, China Street, Barry Forde Band, Leyton Buzzards, The Piranhas, The Mekons, Carol Grimes, The Band, Alex Harvey, Gang of Four, Angelic Upstarts, The Ruts, Crisis, The Vapors, Beggar, UK Subs, John Cooper Clarke, The Enchanters, The Pop Group, The Members, Au Pairs...
