      Along with other extreme Right-wing groups such as Karpatska Sich (whose militancy against Western Ukraine’s Hungarian-speaking minority, including Roma, has drawn criticism from the Hungarian government), the Eastern Orthodox group Tradition and Order, the neo-Nazi group C14, and the extreme Right-wing militia Freikorps, the Russian invasion has allowed Azov to restore its earlier prominence, burnishing its heroic reputation with its dogged defence of Mariupol alongside regular Ukrainian marines. While just a few weeks ago there was still a concerted Western effort to not directly arm Azov, now they seem to be a prime beneficiary of Western munitions and training: these pictures tweeted by the Belarusian opposition outlet NEXTA show Azov fighters being instructed in the use of British-made NLAW anti-tank munitions by blurred-out trainers.

      Similarly, until the Russian invasion, Western governments and news outlets frequently warned of the dangers of Western neo-Nazis and white supremacists gaining combat experience fighting alongside Azov and their allied Nazi subfactions. Yet in the heat of the moment, these concerns seem to have dissipated: a recent photograph of newly-arrived Western volunteers, including Britons, in Kyiv shows Azov’s Olena Semenyaka smiling happily in the background, alongside the Swedish neo-Nazi and former Azov sniper Mikael Skillt. Indeed, Misanthropic Division, a unit of Western neo-Nazis fighting alongside Azov, is currently advertising on Telegram for European militants to join the flow of volunteers and link up with them in Ukraine, “for victory and Valhalla.”

      Sinon, autant l’article est intéressant, autant on a à nouveau ces œillères imposées par l’actualité : on observe ce cas précis, on s’inquiète ou on se rassure… mais ça met au second plan cette généralité qui est que chaque implication du « camp occidental » se fait avec le recours à une forme ou une autre d’escadrons de la mort.

    En tant que mère d’un fils qui s’identifie comme faisant partie de la communauté transgenre*, la perspective d’une épidémie de meurtres de transgenres a un poids supplémentaire : la vie de mon fils est-elle en danger ? Devrais-je être folle d’inquiétude lorsqu’il se rend au travail, et encore plus lorsqu’il sort à un concert le week-end ? Il suffit de dire que ce n’est pas une question que je peux me permettre de prendre à la légère.
    Les faits sont toujours importants, mais ils prennent une importance particulière lorsqu’ils sont utilisés pour affirmer que votre enfant pourrait être assassiné. J’ai donc décidé de me plonger dans les recherches utilisées pour étayer ces affirmations. Pour moi, c’était un enjeu personnel.
    Le gouvernement ne publie pas de données sur le nombre de personnes transgenres au Royaume-Uni, bien qu’en 2018 il ait estimé « provisoirement » que ce chiffre se situait entre « environ 200 000-500 000 personnes ». Quelle proportion de ce nombre doit avoir été tuée pour justifier les avertissements lancés d’aujourd’hui sur l’épidémie de meurtres de transgenres ? 10 ? 100 ? 1,000 ?
    Pour le savoir, j’ai analysé les données recueillies par l’organisation transgenriste Transgender Europe , qui a reçu plus d’un million de dollars de la Fondation Arcus , basée aux États-Unis et qui s’intéresse de près aux questions transgenres. En plus d’avoir donné près de 150 000 dollars au lobby Stonewall , la Fondation Arcus a remis, en 2015, 312 000 dollars à Transgender Europe , spécifiquement pour fournir des données mondiales fiables sur les meurtres de transgenres. Le site web qu’elle a créé propose une carte interactive et des liens vers des documents nommant les victimes transgenres.
