When somebody says that I want the Lebanese state to protect me (when the Lebanese Army is standing by, watching the horrors and not even defending itself against Israeli attacks on its positions) and they use as their political model the period from 1949-1968 they show their pure sectarianism and utter contempt for the Shiite population of the South. The situation of the South was so miserable in those years that it caused the big internal migration and the emergence of the southern suburbs of Beirut.
And why were Shiite migrating to Africa during those golden years of yours? Lebanon during those years was pretty much a country-under-occupation where the Lebanese Army was serving as a surrogate militia for Israel.
Israel bombed water pumps of the Wazzani river in 1964 and threatened Lebanon (we know from US archives) to prevent the development of South Lebanon.
Lebanese Army would abandon its positions and checkpoints in the South at night, per order of Israel, and Israel was routinely kidnapping Southern Lebanese people and shooting at Lebanese and Palestinian civilians there.
But that does not count because in the sectarian mind of those Lebanese, the Shiites don’t count as human beings. They are sectarian through and through (“they don’t resemble us”, they say in Arabic). It is the same Zionist mentality about Arabs but inverted and practiced internally.
Israel shot at a Lebanese civilian airline in 1950 during her model years.
Israel dictated to Lebanon what arms the Lebanese Army could acquire. In a nutshell, they want Lebanon to go back to covert and overt Israeli occupation of the South. It ain’t happening .
