Après ce serait vraiment un « choc frontal » si Harvard revendiquait fièrement les protestations contre le génocide qui s’y sont tenues plutôt que de dire que beaucoup de changements nécessaires ont eu lieu depuis 1 an qui vont dans le sens de l’état fédéral et que ce n’est déjà plus la même université...

The Harvard chapter of the American Association of University Professors sued the Trump administration Friday over what they call an “unlawful and unprecedented” attempt to use federal funding cuts to restrict free speech.

The Department of Education announced in late March that it would review $8.7 billion in federal grants and contacts given to Harvard, alleging that the school failed to prevent antisemitic discrimination on campus.

The Trump administration then unveiled a broad set of demands on April 4 the university must agree to in order to keep getting federal funding, including cutting all diversity, equity and inclusion programming, and modifying any programming and departments that “fuel antisemitic harassment.” The administration gave Columbia University a similar set of demands in March, which the school agreed to.

The lawsuit by the professors’ group, filed in Massachusetts federal court, alleges that the administration’s federal funding review violates the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination in programs that receive federal funds. The court filing says the law requires specific procedures to cut federal funds and that the Trump administration has not taken any of those steps.

The group said in a press release that the administration’s actions are in effort to create a chilling effect among universities and faculty to stop speech that the president does not like.

“Eliminating discrimination and protecting all students is important,” said Nikolas Bowie, a Harvard law professor and the secretary-treasurer of the school’s AAUP chapter, in a statement. "But Trump is defying the Civil Rights Act, terrifying students, and illegally holding hostage grants for hospitals and scientific research so he can accomplish his real goal of punishing academics for our politics.”

The lawsuit says that the actions by the administration have “already caused severe and irreparable harm by halting academic research and inquiry at Harvard.”

This is the second suit that the Harvard AAUP* chapter has filed against the Trump administration this year. The first was a joint suit with other chapters, including one from Columbia, over federal efforts to deport Mahmoud Khalil and students that engaged in Pro-Palestinian activism.

Parce que la communauté académique a bougé contre les KeyLabs (victoire), pour Stand Up for Science (immense succès), pour obtenir la suppression du contrôle politique par le Hcéres (victoire à confirmer), et les étudiants bougeottent contre les 3 milliards € de coupes et annulation de crédits.

Il tente la guerre éclair pour déborder les défenses immunitaires en pensant qu’il n’en a pas forcément pour longtemps au ministère, du fait de la condamnation de la Le Pen (le RN tenant le gouvernement dans sa main). Il veut soumettre l’Université et la recherche avant de donner les clés au RN.

Il sait qu’il peut compter sur la veulerie des laquais invertébrés de France Universités qui ont décidé ce jour de soutenir cette soumission (chimique) de l’Université au pouvoir politique. Il espère que Stand Up + austérité + Hcéres + etc + cela fasse trop de fronts pour la Résistance.

Nous avons une chance paradoxale : les attaques aux Etats-Unis ont immensément choqué la communauté universitaire et scientifique. Tout le monde voit (sauf les buraucrates de l’Udice et France Universités) que les COMP livrent l’Université à l’extrême-droite, à poil, et pieds et poings liés.

Et le milieu académique a renoué avec l’idée qu’elle ait se mettre debout, et même qu’elle peut faire front commun avec les étudiantes et les étudiants.

Nous sommes dos au mur. Et l’accélérationnisme musko-trumpien est bien là, reconnaissable à son odeur.

[Univetsity President] Garber condemned the demands, calling them a political ploy disguised as an effort to address antisemitism on campus.

“It makes clear that the intention is not to work with us to address antisemitism in a cooperative and constructive manner,” he wrote. “Although some of the demands outlined by the government are aimed at combating antisemitism, the majority represent direct governmental regulation of the ‘intellectual conditions’ at Harvard.”

Garber’s response on Monday follows an intense campaign from Harvard faculty and Cambridge residents to resist the Trump administration’s demands.

On Saturday, nearly 500 Harvard affiliates and Cambridge residents gathered in Harvard Square to urge Garber to resist the demands — a call he appeared to answer on Monday.

Garber’s Monday email marked the most forceful condemnation yet from any Harvard official against the Trump administration’s now months-long campaign against the University.

In the lead-up to the funding review, Garber had tried to quietly walk a middle road between federal pressure and resistance on campus. In March, Harvard ousted personnel at its Center for Middle Eastern Studies, suspended programming focused on Israel and Palestine at the Harvard Divinity School, and terminated its partnership with the oldest university in the West Bank — seemingly a preemptive measure to fend off scrutiny from Washington.

And while the Trump administration acknowledged the moves as an “expression of commitment” to addressing antisemitism on campus, it was not enough to halt the $9 billion funding review or curb the flow of new demands.

Elie Honig Stunned When White House Admits It Sent Menacing Letter to Harvard by Mistake – But Blamed Harvard Anyway: ‘I Mean…’

The White House admitted on Friday that it mistakenly sent Harvard University a threatening letter that the school’s attorneys subsequently ripped apart in a public rebuke.

The New York Times published a wild report on Friday evening, stating that the rejection prompted “a frantic phone call from a Trump official.”

“The April 11 letter from the White House’s task force on antisemitism, this official told Harvard, should not have been sent and was ‘unauthorized,’” two sources told the Times. The letter included a list of demands, including the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and the expulsion of pro-Palestine protestors. It also demanded that Harvard guarantee “viewpoint diversity.”

President Donald Trump threatened to rescind the institution’s tax-exempt status after the university rejected his administration’s demands.

The Times report included quite the comment from a Trump official, who said Harvard should have called the White House after receiving the letter instead of responding with a letter of its own that it made public.

“It was malpractice on the side of Harvard’s lawyers not to pick up the phone and call the members of the antisemitism task force who they had been talking to for weeks,” said May Mailman, the White House senior policy strategist. “Instead, Harvard went on a victimhood campaign.”

On Friday’s edition of The Source, CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig phoned in to discuss the Times report about the errant letter, which he called “outrageous” and “obviously unconstitutional.” He was also in awe of the administration placing the blame on Harvard:

Ok, so the White House’s position is, it was malpractice by Harvard to not realize that this letter was so outrageous, it probably wasn’t true. I mean, [inaudible] I think that statement actually just sort of gives away the whole game. Essentially, the argument that we’re hearing there from May Mailman at the White House is, “They should’ve known. They should’ve known there was something wrong. They should’ve picked up the phone and said to us at the White House, ‘Hey guys, this looks like a mistake.’”

I think it’s pretty obvious where the fault lies, though.

Honig concluded by wondering what’s next.
“Now, does the White House withdraw this?” he said. “Or do they sort of decide, ‘Whoops, we’re pot-committed now, and we’re gonna have to have this fight through to the end’?”
