• Evidence Indicates U.S. Dropped Bomb on Residential Area in Iran, Killing 3 Civilians - The New York Times

    « Cibles militaires »

The United States struck a family home on Iran’s Qeshm Island overnight on Thursday with a large-scale bomb, according to an analysis of videos, photos and satellite imagery by weapons experts and The New York Times. Iranian officials said the strike had killed a husband and wife and their 2-year-old son. The couple’s two other children were pulled from the rubble alive, they said.

The size of the crater and munition fragments appear to show the weapon used was a 2,000-pound bomb called a Mark-84, one of the largest conventional bombs used by the U.S. military. The location and time of the strikes are consistent with where and when the United States was operating. The evidence raises questions about what the United States was targeting and why such a large munition was used.

The strike hit a densely populated neighborhood on the island, which sits in the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran, and appears to have been part of a flurry of attacks the United States said it had launched to retaliate against earlier strikes by Iran on a base used by American forces in Jordan.

[Larry Ellison] was, at 2 p.m., standing beside Donald Trump in the Roosevelt Room as the president announced “the largest A.I. infrastructure project by far in history” and told the world that his friend Larry Ellison was just the man to get it done. “He’s sort of C.E.O. of everything,” Trump said. “He’s an amazing man and an amazing businessperson.”

Ellison began by thanking Trump. “We certainly couldn’t do this without you,” he said. “It would simply be impossible.” He then proceeded to sketch out the ambitious plan. Ellison’s database software and cloud computing company, #Oracle, and its partners — most prominently OpenAI — were going to invest as much as $500 billion over the next four years into a group of sprawling data centers, 500,000 square feet each, that would produce 10 gigawatts of computing power, using enough energy to power as many as 10 million homes. It was called Project Stargate, after the 1994 sci-fi movie in which Kurt Russell steps through a wormhole and finds himself inside a pyramid on an alien planet. This Stargate would be a portal leading humanity from the postindustrial era to the artificial-intelligence age.

Eni and TotalEnergies approved a new Cypriot gas route into Europe through Damietta on Tuesday. On Wednesday a suspected drone hit the American-owned floating gas terminal moored in that port. The target was not the pipeline and not the export plant. It was the backup.

Both halves are on the record. Eni and TotalEnergies each published the decision on 28th July. Cypriot gas runs by subsea pipeline into Egypt, is processed through the Zohr facilities, liquefied at Damietta and shipped to Europe from 2028. Plateau output of 500 million cubic feet a day, roughly 2.8 million tonnes of LNG a year. TotalEnergies chief executive Patrick Pouyanné called it a new Mediterranean gas route contributing to Europe’s energy security by diversifying supply.

Damietta’s liquefaction plant sat idle from 2013 to 2021 and has run only intermittently since. Cronos gas restarts it.

28 hours after the announcement the Energos Winter was on fire.

Ambrey and Vanguard assessed a projectile or drone striking its starboard side shortly after 2pm GMT. Flames spread to the GasLog Salem alongside, near its number two forward cargo tanks. Egyptian crews put both out and moved the ships offshore. All 25 crew were safe. Egypt’s petroleum ministry confirmed a fire and not a cause. No state and no group has claimed it. Trump said America would respond very hard and that it was his country’s turn to hit back, while saying he had been briefed without naming anyone.

Which asset burned changes the meaning. Energos Winter is not the export plant. It is a 138,250 cubic metre floating storage and regasification unit on a five-year charter to Egypt’s state gas company, and its job is taking imported LNG, turning it back into gas and feeding Egypt’s national grid.

Damietta now holds two things at one address. Egypt’s import lifeline, and Europe’s newest export route.

Concentration is what a floating terminal is for. After 2022, Germany, Italy and Egypt reached for them because a floating unit arrives in months while a built one takes years. Speed carried a cost. Once moored, an FSRU stacks storage, regasification, grid connection, berth and a receiving carrier into one target that cannot move.

Damietta also sits outside the waters underwriters currently list for this war, which cover the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden and the southern Red Sea. War insurance is priced by geography. If assets can be selected by their function in a network instead of their position in a strait, a listed area stops being the right instrument.

Four days earlier, Iran said a Ukrainian strike on one of its vessels in the Caspian killed a sailor and could not go unanswered. Kyiv said it hit ships carrying Iran-linked military cargo. That is a sequence. It is not attribution and should not be treated as one until evidence arrives.

The thesis holds either way. If the strike was hostile, a war has moved from chokepoints to the emergency infrastructure built after the last crisis. If investigators find another cause, the vulnerability is still sitting in plain view.

This fails if a non-hostile cause is established, nothing comparable outside the listed zones is struck before 30th September, and underwriters leave Mediterranean floating-terminal terms unchanged.

The next energy war will not go after the route. It will go after the thing built to survive losing the route.

      https://gcaptain.com/middle-east-war-expands-to-mediterranean-with-drone-strike-at-key-egypt-ln

LONDON/CAIRO,/WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) – A drone hit a U.S.-owned gas storage tanker at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta, British maritime security firm Ambrey said in an initial assessment on Wednesday, and U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to retaliate against Iran for an overnight attack, as the Middle East conflictappeared to expand beyond its main fronts.

A statement from Egypt’s petroleum ministry confirmed a fire at the port but made no mention of a drone attack. It was not immediately clear who was responsible.

The drone hit floating storage tanker Energos Winter, causing a fire that then spread to another vessel, three trading sources familiar with the incident said. The fire was dealt with immediately with no casualties, the petroleum ministry said.

The incident, which Trump said he had been briefed on, came amid a sharp escalation in the conflict, with Iran firing missiles at U.S. forces in Jordan and the United States and Saudi Arabia striking Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq.

Alongside Yemen’s Houthi group declaring a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, the latest exchanges suggest the conflict is spreading further than it has since U.S. and Israel started bombing Iran in February.

[…] two Iranians, who asked not to be named to discuss security matters, said on Wednesday that the strike was meant to show that global shipping and energy supplies could be disrupted further if Iran chose to escalate. The Iranians did not say whether Iran or one of its allies had carried out the strike.

About 10 percent of seaborne trade moves through the Suez, with about 50 ships passing through the 120-mile canal each day, according to the Suez Canal Authority, an Egyptian government agency.

The canal, which connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, is the shortest maritime route between Europe and the Indian Ocean, linking supply in Asia and the Gulf to demand in Europe and North America.

It is not an alternative to the Strait of Hormuz, which has been mostly blocked since the United States and Israel attacked Iran in February, because it supplies a different trade route. But a disruption of traffic through the Suez would force ships to undertake longer, costlier journeys around Africa, via the Cape of Good Hope, analysts said.

  • Je suis spécialiste des génocides. Nous entrons dans une nouvelle ère terrifiante.
21 juillet 2026 | Par Omer Bartov | The new York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/opinion/israel-gaza-palestinians-genocide.html

  • Opinion | The Grim Lessons of Israel’s War in #Gaza - The New York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/opinion/israel-gaza-palestinians-genocide.html

    Par Omer Bartov

How do #genocides end? In most cases, there are two options. Either the perpetrators accomplish their goal, or a military force stops them and accountability ensues.

In 1904, the Imperial German Army began a campaign that nearly wiped out the Herero and Nama peoples in what was then German South West Africa, now Namibia, through fatal expulsions into the desert, incarceration in forced labor camps and outright murder. No one intervened. In 1915, the Ottoman Empire either murdered vast numbers of Armenians it sought to remove from the heartland of Anatolia or caused their death by forced marches. Feeble efforts to bring former Ottoman heads of state to account were quickly abandoned. To this day Turkey denies the genocide.

Conversely, because the Nazi regime was defeated in World War II, its genocide of the Jews and its other mass crimes were adjudicated at Nuremberg. Other genocides that also ended with the military defeat of the perpetrators — such as in Cambodia in 1979, in Rwanda in 1994 and in Bosnia in 1995 — all culminated in some sort of reckoning, however belated and incomplete. Denial of what occurred thus became impossible.

In the earlier case of genocides that “succeeded” because of impunity at the time or the absence of subsequent accountability, the perpetrator state went on to benefit from its criminal actions. The invention and codification of the concept of genocide after World War II was meant to prevent the persistence of this dynamic of impunity and profit.

What we have seen unfold in Gaza, where Israel stands accused in the International Court of Justice of committing genocide in the aftermath of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, appears to portend a new future for the crime.

It is a future in which other nations or leaders may have an incentive to pursue genocidal policies knowing they will not only get away with murder but may even benefit from it. It is a future in which the countries and international organizations that had been committed to stopping and punishing genocide may give license to its recurrence.

  • Pentagon Withheld Dozens of U.S. Military Injuries in Iran War - The New York Times

More than 400 U.S. service members have been injured in the Iran conflict, according to Central Command. The Pentagon had periodically reported the total number of service members injured and returned to duty since early in the war, but it has stopped updating the overall figure in recent weeks.

In previous administrations, the Pentagon usually delayed providing any details on injured service members until family notifications were completed. During the Biden administration, the Pentagon typically reported the number of service members injured in attacks by Iran-backed militias on U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq.

More than 1,700 Iranian civilians have died in the war, according to estimates.

Trump Gutted Civil Rights Agency, Stifling U.S. Scrutiny of Workplace Bias - The New York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/19/us/politics/trump-gutted-civil-rights-agency-stifling-us-scrutiny-of-workplace-bias.htm

Federal investigators were working in early 2025 to wrap up a two-year inquiry into claims of pervasive sexual harassment and discrimination at a company that makes weapons, vehicles and cybersecurity tools for the Pentagon.

The investigators had found, among other things, that some male managers at a Norfolk, Va., Navy shipyard had demanded oral sex and other sexual contact from female employees in exchange for promotions and overtime pay, and that Black women had been paid less and promoted less frequently than men, according to three people with knowledge of the findings.

The government was zeroing in on a resolution to propose to the company, BAE Systems: to make seven-figure payouts to workers and to adopt reforms — or risk losing its roughly $8 billion in annual federal contracts.

Then, the inquiry was suddenly halted.

On Jan. 21, the day after President Trump was inaugurated, he directed the Labor Department office conducting the investigation to stop most of its work, effectively shutting down the inquiry. It was part of a sweeping executive order purging the federal government of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that Mr. Trump said had undermined individual achievement in favor of a “pernicious identity-based spoils system.”

  • Why Jordan Is Becoming a New Focus in the U.S.-Iran War - The New York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/18/world/middleeast/iran-war-jordan-attacks.html

The Iranian attack that killed two U.S. soldiers and left one service member missing on Friday was the fourth in five days on U.S. forces in Jordan, multiple American officials said. Taken together, the attacks have wounded dozens of U.S. service members and damaged a number of helicopters.

The flurry of attacks and the losses they have caused are a sign that Iranian forces not only still have ample missile stocks but have also become more adept at evading U.S. air defense systems, said the U.S. officials, who were speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss operational matters.

Jordan, which hosts major U.S. air bases, grew in importance in the run-up to and the early days of the war, as the Pentagon shifted a number of troops from Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to relatively more secure locations in Jordan and Israel. The country’s role in U.S. operations has only increased as other American allies in the region have restricted Washington’s ability to base troops in and fly aircraft over their territories, the U.S. officials said.

In early July, Iran widened its attacks in the region, including Jordan for the first time since Tehran and Washington signed a cease-fire agreement in June.

The U.S. officials offered a recounting of the last five days of Iran’s attacks on Jordan, which the Pentagon has not yet discussed in detail publicly.

The first attack to hit U.S. forces in Jordan struck a residential facility at King Faisal Air Base, wounding as many as five U.S. service members, they said. The second hit a base in eastern Jordan where U.S. Blackhawk helicopters were operating from, damaging a significant number of them.

Then, 48 hours ago, Iranian missiles hit Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, which is the same base where the troops were killed on Friday, the officials said. The earlier strike wounded about 20 U.S. troops rushing to take cover in bunkers. No one was killed in that barrage. But on Friday, when the Iranians struck the base again, two U.S. troops were killed and four other service members were injured, according to U.S. officials. Other personnel were evaluated for minor injuries and returned to duty.

    The Pentagon declined to comment.

On Friday, the Iranian Army said it had launched a drone attack targeting fuel tanks at the U.S. base in Azraq. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps also said it had used missiles and drones to target aircraft shelters at the base, according to Fars News Agency, a semiofficial news outlet affiliated with the Guards.

Jordan’s location allows the United States to conduct “more efficient air operations across Syria, Iraq and the broader region,” said David Deptula, a retired Air Force lieutenant general who was a main architect of the 1991 Persian Gulf air war.

“Friday’s attack was therefore not just an attack on a base,” he said in an email on Saturday. “It was an attack on the U.S. regional coalition and an attempt to make the political cost of hosting American forces greater than the security benefit.”

The U.S. military announced on Saturday evening that it had launched retaliatory strikes to degrade Iran’s threat to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to “swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan.”

Even before those strikes, President Trump signaled that he planned to increase strikes on Iran in the next week and intended to hit more Iranian infrastructure, including bridges, electrical power plants and distribution systems.

  • Taylor Farms to Remove Products After Lettuce Is Linked to Cyclospora Cases - The New York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/17/business/cyclospora-taylor-farms-lettuce.html

Taylor Farms, one of the nation’s largest producers of leafy greens and fresh vegetables, said on Friday that it would remove its products at the center of a cyclosporiasis outbreak that has sickened more than 1,600 people.

Based in California, the family-owned company is in the spotlight after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked an outbreak of cyclosporiasis to iceberg lettuce that Taylor Farms supplied to certain Taco Bell restaurants, according to two federal officials who declined to be named Thursday night.

Today, Taylor Farms is a vegetable behemoth, selling more than $7 billion worth of produce each year to grocery stores and restaurant chains. It grows food in more than a dozen states, as well as in Mexico and Canada, and has 30 processing facilities and 25,000 employees. Last year it said it made more than 40 percent of all salad kits sold in American groceries and provided 265 million servings of fresh vegetables each week.

But much of its sales to grocery retailers and restaurants are a mystery. The company — like other food producers — does not disclose which grocery stores or restaurants use its leafy greens or other vegetables.

Adding to the confusion, Taylor Farms sells most of its products to food distributors, who, in turn, sell them to restaurants and grocery stores.

other states that are unrelated, the C.D.C. said in its notice posted Thursday night.

For years, Taylor Foods has emphasized the importance of safety in the lettuce and the other produce it grows, knowing one incident can quickly wipe out consumer trust.

“Our whole industry relies on consumer confidence in the health and safety of our products,” Mr. Taylor said in an interview published earlier this year in Western Farm Press, a trade publication that focuses on farmers and ranchers. “All we can do is make sure we’re taking the steps that we know to take to ensure we’re producing safe food for our fellow Americans.”

The F.D.A.’s investigation into the outbreak appears to be focused on a farm in Mexico that grew the iceberg lettuce, and a facility nearby that shredded it, according to administration officials.

Taylor Farms has two processing facilities in Mexico, one in Baja California and another in Guanajuato.

Food and safety experts said this cyclosporiasis outbreak demonstrated the difficulty in completely eliminating risk from a food supply chain that often stretches across multiple countries and a number of growers, packagers, distributors and sellers who operate under different laws and with different food safety standards.

Over the years, Taylor Farms has been linked to previous outbreaks of food-borne illnesses. In 2013, following three recalls, the company was investigated by health officials in connection with an outbreak of illness that sickened hundreds of people in 22 states that involved greens used at Olive Garden, Red Lobster and possibly other restaurant chains.

More recently, health officials considered the company a likely source of an E. coli outbreak linked to onions served at McDonald’s in 2024 that resulted in 104 illnesses, 34 hospitalizations and one death. In October of that year, Taylor Farms recalled yellow onions.

Mr. Taylor, the company’s founder, has played a powerful role in the fresh produce industry. When two major produce associations joined forces in 2022 to form the International Fresh Produce Association, he was the inaugural chairman.

Kalshi, the start-up that lets users wager on almost anything, has struck a partnership with the artificial intelligence company OpenAI to show World Cup prediction market data in ChatGPT search results.

The tie-up, which has not been promoted publicly, uses Kalshi data to display the odds of victory in various matches in user queries in ChatGPT, search results show.

A ChatGPT search for “France and Spain,” for example, displays a graphic showing that the prediction market has assigned the French a 60 percent chance of winning on Tuesday, attributed to Kalshi data. A search about the countries playing in the other semifinal cites Kalshi data suggesting that England has a 55 percent chance of beating Argentina.

The deal with a prediction market is a first for OpenAI. For Kalshi, it is part of an ongoing campaign to integrate its wagering data far and wide to increase awareness and — ultimately — to bring more users to its site. Last year, Kalshi cemented a partnership to integrate its data across CNN and CNBC, including a real-time ticker powered by Kalshi data to run during news segments. In January, Polymarket, Kalshi’s largest rival, struck a similar deal to integrate its data across Dow Jones products, including The Wall Street Journal.

Regulators are facing increasing pressure to crack down on abuses in fast-growing and highly lucrative prediction markets. Correct bets on the timing of the U.S. military’s actions in Iran and Venezuela and company-related news have created growing concerns about leaks of sensitive information and potential insider trading. Earlier this year, a top federal financial agency opened an extensive investigation into Polymarket, raising inquiries about whether the site is was operating within the law.

OpenAI and Kalshi declined to comment.

In a recent update to its corporate help web page, OpenAI said that users “cannot place bets through ChatGPT,” and that the partnership appears to be limited to using Kalshi data only “for queries related to the 2026 World Cup.” The company also states that the data is “for informational purposes only.”

As prediction markets grow in popularity, more Silicon Valley companies are strategizing about how to get in on the action. Last year, Google struck deals with Polymarket and Kalshi to put prediction market results into Google Search results and on its Google Finance page.

And Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Meta, has directed lieutenants to build a stand-alone prediction markets app that would be directly integrated into Facebook and Messenger.

(The New York Times has sued OpenAI and Microsoft, claiming copyright infringement of news content related to A.I. systems. The two companies have denied those claims.)

    https://israj.media-j.com/article/65036/israel-aurait-tente-de-faire-de-mahmoud-ahmadinejad-un-allie-contre-l

  • An American Politician Is Blocked by Israeli Settlers in the West Bank - The New York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/us/politics/ro-khanna-west-bank.html

The Israeli settlers had guns and Representative Ro Khanna was scared.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Khanna, the congressman from Silicon Valley who is exploring a 2028 presidential run, was visiting the ruins of Khirbet Zanuta, a tiny Palestinian Bedouin village in the southern West Bank that was abandoned after escalating attacks from settlers and then demolished.

Suddenly, a car of men holding guns pulled up and blocked the narrow road out of the village. The men began taunting the congressman and his team, swearing at them in Hebrew and Arabic and kicking the tires of their minibus, according to accounts, photographs and video footage from Mr. Khanna, an aide and his security guard. A photographer for The New York Times traveling in a different vehicle also saw the interaction. Soon, a Jeep with more men arrived.

When two cars from the Israeli military pulled up, Mr. Khanna assumed the soldiers were there to help him pass. Instead, the soldiers smoked cigarettes, chatted with the men and after the settlers left, moved a car to block the road, he recounted.

    […]

Mr. Khanna, who is Indian American and grew up in Pennsylvania, said he had never been so aware of his race as on this trip.

“In Palestine, I felt first as someone who was brown,” he said. “We really saw the apartheidlike conditions, the inequality.”

      https://www.mediapart.fr/journal/fil-dactualites/110726/un-depute-americain-dit-avoir-ete-bloque-par-des-colons-israeliens-en-cisj

Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna of California recalled the incident on Wednesday of being blocked by armed settlers in the West Bank and detained by the IDF to the NBC’s Meet the Press.

Asked about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s response to the incident and an IDF statement that said troops were dispatched to the scene quickly, dispersed the Israeli civilians, and reopened the blocked road, Khanna said, “The IDF is lying.”

“What happened was unprecedented. They had violent settlers detain American citizens, including an American government official. You had these settlers brandishing M4S, kicking the tires off our van, laughing at us, mocking us, videotaping us,” he said.
"We were detained for about twenty minutes, fearful of our lives. Then the IDF comes, four soldiers. They tell our translator that they’re on the side of the settlers. They further detain us and block us in.

“We had to call the American embassy. Fortunately, David Brownstein [Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem] helped, and he reached someone in Israel. And 75 minutes after the detention by the IDF soldiers and by these settlers, we were let through.”

“Now I heard the prime minister, and he says that Israel is a country of law and order. Well, let me be very specific. The prime minister needs to open an investigation into these violent settlers who are connected to Yinon Levi, who has destroyed Zanuta’s village and is a known person who has killed Palestinians,” Khanna said, referring to the fatal shooting of activist Awdah al-Hathaleen.

In his first interview with an Israeli media outlet since his confrontation with armed settlers and Israeli soldiers in the southern West Bank last week, Representative Ro Khanna spoke with Haaretz Podcast host Allison Kaplan Sommer in a wide-ranging conversation about the now-famous incident, the “cruelty” he witnessed in his visit to the West Bank, and how Israel’s “disproportionate and inhumane” behavior in the Gaza war has changed his policy positions and the way that both he – and Americans at large – view the Jewish state.
      (...)
In reaction to subsequent statements on the incident issued by the Israeli military and top officials, he said that he was “more disturbed” by their “lies” than by “the incident itself.”
Khanna, a California Democrat who has made it clear that he is interested in a presidential run in 2028 and that he plans to make Palestinian rights a central issue on his platform, added, “the next American president will demand the arrest of violent settlers.”
Reiterating his belief that “Gaza was a genocide,” Khanna also said that anyone who “wants to see the cruelty of humanity” should “spend a day in the occupied West Bank.”
He said he had visited Israel three times in the past – including trips with Jewish groups – and today, he is “saddened” and “pained” that Israel’s “contribution to human civilization is being corrupted because of an ugly occupation in the West Bank and Gaza, because of extreme elements that want to see the aspirations for a greater Israel, and because of an unwillingness to recognize the humanity and dignity of the Palestinian people.”

  • How Marco Rubio is Running #Venezuela From Afar - The New York Times
    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/us/politics/how-marco-rubio-runs-venezuela.html

The secretary of state effectively controls Venezuela’s finances, the distribution of its natural resources and its government. His grip on the country is a vivid manifestation of American power in the Trump era.

President Trump was sitting in the Oval Office earlier this year with Secretary of State Marco Rubio when an idea came to him.

Maybe he should dispatch Mr. Rubio permanently to Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, where U.S. commandos had carried out the proudest foreign policy achievement of Mr. Trump’s second term: the capture of Nicolás Maduro, the country’s president.

Mr. Rubio could be the next leader of Venezuela, Mr. Trump suggested. And while the president’s aides say he was joking — and that he frequently teases Mr. Rubio about an overseas assignment — the fact is that Mr. Rubio does not need to move to Caracas.

He already runs Venezuela from Washington.

In the six months since U.S. forces blew open Mr. Maduro’s bedroom door and snatched him in the dead of night, Mr. Rubio has become the de facto viceroy of Venezuela, holding sway over a sovereign nation in a way that no American official has since L. Paul Bremer III arrived in Baghdad in 2003 to run U.S.-occupied Iraq.

Mr. Rubio now effectively controls Venezuela’s finances, the distribution of its natural resources and its government, according to interviews with more than a dozen officials and people close to both governments in Washington and Caracas, who provided details about his involvement in steering the country’s policies. Many spoke on condition of anonymity to describe private interactions and internal discussions.

While he has not visited Venezuela in person since the U.S. took over, the secretary of state is deeply involved in the country’s day-to-day operations, keeping in close contact with Delcy Rodríguez, who was Mr. Maduro’s vice president and now leads her country on an acting basis, with the imprimatur of the United States. The two exchange messages in Spanish on WhatsApp, trading gossip, birthday greetings and selfies.
