A fascinating op-ed in the biggest news website in Israel Yent, by Amir Etinger. He argues that the anti-Netanyahu bloc is weakened by the presence of Yair Golan and the Democrats because he supports a Palestinian state.

The premise is that 10% of the public remains undecided and many of them come specifically from the religious-Zionist sector. The fact that Golan does not envision permanent apartheid could prevent them from winning.

There is a dilemma, he says. On one hand, a government without the ultra-Orthodox is appealing to undecided voters. On the other hand, Golan wants to actively pursue Palestinian statehood and separation measures. That will pull undecided voters back into Netanyahu’s arms.

Even the presence of one party that thinks Palestinians deserve a state is enough to derail the entire camp in his view.
