Australian asylum resettlement policy ’a disaster’ - Human Rights Watch
The Australian government’s policy of resettling asylum seekers in Papua New Guinea has been “a disaster”, a human rights group has claimed.
A report by Human Rights Watch said more than 850 asylum seekers were being detained, seemingly indefinitely.
The government has rejected the criticism, saying off-shore resettlement has stemmed the flow of refugees arriving by boat.
Jon Donnison reports from Sydney.
