One of the founders of the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (P.F.L.P.) Ahmad Yamani died in Beirut at the age of 86, it was announced Tuesday. Yamani, better known as Abu Maher Yamani, was one of the moderate figures of the P.F.L.P. A member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the P.F.L.P. was launched by the late Palestinian leader George Habash in December 1967, and Yamani was considered one of the group’s moderate figures. Abu Maher played a key role in the reconciliation between the Lebanese government and Palestinian factions during Lebanon’s Civil War. He will be buried in Beirut Wednesday.

The Palestinian masses in every camp and location know of Abu Maher as a solid fighter and a leader who always held the feelings, problems and concerns of the people at the forefront and gave expression of the struggle for return, freedom, dignity and self-detemination.
The Arab people know of Comrade Abu Maher as a freedom fighter committed to Palestinian and Arab unity as a way to liberate every inch of Palestine and achieve the aspirations of the Arab nation for liberation, democracy, socialism and unity.
