These battles could be considered as battles of attack and retreat, and it does not seem that the Russian air support led the regime forces to achieve any significant progress. “The regime’s firing density and destructive power increased in parallel with a heavy reliance on the Russian air force,” Khaled said.
He added, “This, however, is insufficient to tip the balance of the battle. Today we are more in need of anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles.”
The battles are still ongoing — although in a lesser pace — between the opposition and the regime forces in the northern countryside of Hama. The opposition maintains its strategic positions, although it has lost three towns in Hama’s countryside and al-Ghab plain. For their part, the regime forces, which failed to achieve significant advances, opened several new battles to undermine the opposition forces, namely in Aleppo’s southern countryside, Homs’ northern countryside and Eastern Ghouta in Rif Dimashq governorate.
