RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Israeli forces early Wednesday opened fire on the life-size model of a farmer in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh after mistaking it for a real person, locals told Ma’an.
Israeli forces were performing a detention raid into the village when they reportedly encountered the model, which had been made
by local resident Abdullah Tamimi in order to teach his children about their cultural heritage.
Mistaking it for a real person, locals said that the soldiers opened fire on the model and called for back-up, locals said.
After they discovered that it was only a model they set it on fire.
An Israeli army spokesperson said she was looking into the reports.
The Tamimi family has been at the forefront of protests in Nabi Saleh, where locals have staged a weekly demonstration against Israel’s occupation since 2009.
Parts of the illegal Israeli settlement of Halamish were built across Nabi Saleh’s land.
