The Refugee Tech Crisis
A few weeks ago in Berlin, members of the tech community, civil society, and the city’s growing population of refugees gathered for three days of workshops and presentations on how technology might support people arriving in Germany with nothing after having fled their home countries. The event was titled “Civil Society 4.0—Refugees and Digital Self Organization,” and those last three words reflect the impressive spread of independently organized digital projects aimed at helping refugees. They also describe the major challenge facing those efforts: how to organize collectively and eliminate duplication.
How technology could help millions of female refugees
About 41 per cent of the world’s refugees are children, and about half of all refugees are women. Isolated from essential advice and information, they are often unable to get the help they need. But technology could help. A group of coders, designers, NGOs and academics are working to develop technology that can inform and educate female refugees of all ages.

La géomatique dans l’aide aux réfugiés !
Le master Géomatique appliquée aux études urbaines et aux risques de l’université de Cergy-Pontoise a organisé le mardi 8 mars dernier une journée spécialement dédiée à la question de la dite « crise des réfugiés », aujourd’hui très médiatisée. En effet, les actions humanitaires nécessitent l’appui cartographique. C’est pourquoi des professionnels issus de diverses organisations étaient présents ce jour pour d’une part exposer leurs travaux réalisés lors de missions et ainsi provoquer discussions et débats ; c’était le cas de Karine PARROT (UCP), Luc CAMBREZY et Rainer ZAISS (IRD), Quentin LOBBEE (DiasporasLab), Thomas ROCA (AFD), Marc Kieny (La Cimade), Violaine DOUTRELEAU (CartONG), Johan RICHER (Singa) ; et d’autre part pour inviter les participants à une cartopartie humanitaire avec les professionnels de l’ONG de Cartographie CartONG !
