This article is as much a personal reminiscence as an exposition on networking methods. It covers several
decades of time and describes a progression from the “sneakernet” networking approach, moves through inter-
mediate steps including my experiments in transoceanic radio networking, and finally describes some modern
network management methods like Zeroconf.
