    Like most other things in Syria, protests have changed over five years. One activist from northern Idlib province said he has become disillusioned by their politicisation. “We used to go out and protest without anyone asking us, or telling us what to do,” says Abu Mohammed, who asked not to be identified by his real name. “Now it is all politicised . . .  whatever backer is giving the opposition money influences what we name our Friday.”
