    Les accusations récurrentes d’aggressions sexuelles contre Jacob Applebaum, un des développeur de Tor et militant pour la liberté d’expression, ont fait surface officiellement. Le projet Tor qui l’a expulsé l’a d’abord fait sans aucune explication, puis a posté un message indiquant qu’il fallait suivre la voie légale.

      Ben voila, maintenant ça l’est … jamais un bon présage d’avoir à faire justice soi même, ici détruire la réputation d’une personne en prenant un site à son nom pour publier le témoignage de ses victimes. Je ne sais pas quoi en penser, vraiment, même pour un #prédateur_sexuel ou un salopard, il sera utile d’avoir la distance intellectuelle qu’est censée donner la justice et non la vengeance, même justifiée. Vrai, je me questionne.

      Dénégation et contre-attaque de l’intéressé :

      I think it’s extremely damaging to the community that these #character-assassination tactics are being deployed, especially given their ugly history of being used against fellow members of the LGBT community. It pains me to watch the community to which I’ve dedicated so much of my life engage in such self-destructive behavior. Nonetheless, I am prepared to use legal channels, if necessary, to defend my reputation from these libelous accusations.

      I want to be clear: the accusations of criminal sexual misconduct against me are entirely false.

      Oui. Le problème pour la théorie de « character assassination », c’est qu’il ne s’agit pas de un, deux ou trois personnes (qu’il pourrait dire manipulées), mais que c’est déjà assez massif et qu’il en sort encore.

      Oui @rastapopoulos c’est un argument récurrent de faire porter à ceux qui dénoncent des abus sexuels la perturbation de la soit-disante cohésion du groupe, de la famille, de l’entreprise, voire de la société.
      Pourtant mettre en place des moyens de se débarrasser des salopards et de soutenir les victimes dans leur démarche est très salvateur. C’est très sain, mais c’est lourd à porter parce que c’est souvent la politique de l’autruche qui prime, en haut des intérêts qui seraient supérieurs avec en contrebas, les victimes, les femmes, les affaires de cul. Pourtant, cela permet de requestionner l’ordre inepte du pouvoir. L’affaire Denis Baupin est du même acabit, il faut un sacré courage pour remettre en cause le système qui protège le névrosé.

    Jacob Appelbaum, Digital Rights Activist, Leaves Tor Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations

    On Thursday, the Tor Project quietly announced the departure of leading digital rights activist Jacob Appelbaum from its board. At first, they didn’t say why — now, we know.

    On Friday afternoon, members of the cryptography community accused Appelbaum publicly of multiple instances of sexual assault against people in the Tor community, and attributed these accusations to Appelbaum’s departure from the Tor Project.

    On Saturday, the Tor Project confirmed in a blog post that complaints of this nature are, in fact, the reason for Appelbaum’s departure. Appelbaum is a notorious hacker and activist for digital rights who has worked with both WikiLeaks and the Edward Snowden documents. He is prominent in the cryptography and online activism community, and influential among civil liberties projects and foundations.

    “We do not know exactly what happened here,” Tor Project executive director Shari Steele wrote. “We don’t have all the facts, and we are undertaking several actions to determine them as best as possible. We’re also not an investigatory body, and we are uncomfortable making judgments about people’s private behaviors.”
