Im März macht sich die österreichische Künstlerinnengruppe monochrom unter der Regie von Johannes Grenzfurthner (unterstützt vom Medienkollektiv Traum&Wahnsinn) an einen ambitionierten Plan: die Realisation einer postapokalyptischen Sci-Fi-Fantasy-Horror-Groteske über die Mediensphäre der Nachnachkriegszeit mit dem Titel „Die Gstettensaga: The Rise of Echsenfriedl“.
Zum Inhalt: Die zunehmenden Spannungen zwischen den beiden letzten Supermächten — China und Google — eskalieren im frühen 21. Jahrhundert, und enden in der globalen Feuersbrunst der „Google Wars“. Doch ehe man sich versieht, erhebt sich eine durchaus neue Welt aus dem Schutt der alten: Die Megacity Schwechat, der größte Zersiedlungsraum in den Ausläufern dessen, was von den Alpen übriggeblieben ist. Dort leben und arbeiten Fratt Aigner und Alalia Grundschober. Fratt und Alalia kennen sich nicht. Bis zu jenem schicksalsträchtigen Nachmittag im Verlagshaus des Medienmoguls Thurnher von Pjölk. Hier beginnt eine Reise voller Gefahren, Kreaturen und prekärer Arbeitsverhältnisse.

The movie contains a text insert similar to #watermarks used in festival viewing copies. The text insert asks the viewer to report the film as #copyright infringement by calling a premium-rate phone number (1.09 EUR/minute). The film aired on Austrian national television in March 2014. Grenzfurthner co-financed the film with proceeds from the premium-rate number. According to Telepolis he call this new strategy ’#crowdratting.'

A titre d’exemple de la fragilité de l’hypertexte et du web, Microsoft et sa MSDN, et ses blogs techniques... On trouve pleins d’adresses sur le web, dans les forums, vers des sites Microsoft... et depuis peu, les contenus datant d’avant 2009 sont devenus injoignables. Aussi bien de la documentation que des téléchargements. Ils ont tout simplement décidé, de toute évidence, de ne pas les maintenir... ce qui rend une bonne partie de ce qui existait introuvable... ce qui parfois est terriblement frustrant.
Et c’est vrai pour de nombreux autres sites... évidemment. Un lien est périssable.

Styler’s completed documentary, The Sweatbox, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 13, 2002. Disney owns the rights to the documentary and has not released it on home video or DVD.

But what enrages us to our inner core is that the system, the empire, the governments, are still allowed to try to boss you and us around with one law crazier than the other. Do you think they will stop with #SOPA/#ACTA/#PIPA? They will not. Because you won’t stop sharing those files. Because we will not stay down. Because no one can turn back time. Together, we are the iron that hardens with each strike.
