Visual #design #rules you can safely follow every time
    ▻https://anthonyhobday.com/sideprojects/saferules

You do not have to follow these rules every time. If you have a good reason to break any of them, do. But they are #safe to follow every time.

    – Use near-black and near-white instead of pure black and white
    – Saturate your neutrals
    – Use high #contrast for important elements
    – Everything in your design should be deliberate
    – Optical #alignment is often better than mathematical alignment
    – Lower letter spacing and line height with larger #text. Raise them with smaller text
    – Container borders should contrast with both the container and the background
    – Everything should be aligned with something else
    – #Colours in a palette should have distinct brightness values
    – If you saturate your neutrals you should use warm or cool colours, not both
    – Measurements should be mathematically related
    – Elements should go in order of visual weight
    – If you use a horizontal grid, use 12 columns
    – #Spacing should go between points of high contrast
    – Closer elements should be lighter
    – Make drop shadow blur values double their distance values
    – Put simple on complex or complex on simple
    – Keep container colours within brightness limits
    – Make outer padding the same or more than inner padding
    – Keep body text at 16px or above
    – Use a line length around 70 characters
    – Make horizontal #padding twice the vertical padding in buttons
    – Use two #typefaces at most
    – Nest corners properly
    – Don’t put two hard divides next to each other

      #ux Finitions.
J’ai l’impression qu’on redit toujours un peu les même choses depuis 15 ans.
Et surtout que ce sont les pratiques de PAO qui débouchent sur le web.

    Continuous #alignment of Product Management

There’s a startup product metaphor that bugs me. Your product is a rocket, and if your targeting at launch is 1% off — you miss the moon by 4,000 miles! The thing is products, rockets and targeting don’t work that way. I have resorted to a cartoon to explain:In Products are Conversations I explained that great products come from conversations with customers and internal stakeholders. In this post, I’ll suggest how you can improve the Product Management process of Continuous Alignment with internal stakeholders towards envisioned outcomes. In some ways, Product Management used to be easier. You’d gain customer requirements, document them in a Product Requirements Document, throw the spec over the wall, accept a Technical Requirements Document that was in alignment. Then drive development down a (...)

The Line Between #mentorship And Partnership

One of the first pieces of advice most people will give you when you set out to become an entrepreneur is to “get yourself a few good mentors”. While I wholeheartedly agree with this advice and it can create a ton of good, very few people talk about the bad that can come from it if the proper lines are not drawn. While it has been several months since my experience which I will share some lessons from, I admit that I still harbor some negative emotions as I write about it. I will try my best to remain objective and unbiased, as one of the greatest lessons this particular mentor taught me is that “there are two sides to every story”.I’ll skip to the end of the story since the journey itself (while probably somewhat entertaining) is less important than the lessons that can be taken from it. (...)

    #Alignment_for_dignity

“Alignment for Dignity – I am here for a reason” is a Berlin-based information network raising awareness for the situation of refugees and asylum seekers in the European Union and beyond.

The initiative was founded by students of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands in February 2014 and has since then expanded to an international network with contributors located anywhere in the world. Given the fact that the subject, notwithstanding its importance, has found little attention among the students, made the founding of the group important to us.

The objective of “Alignment for Dignity” is to raise awareness for the situation of refugees at the external frontiers as well as inside the European Union. We believe that human rights violations need to find public attention in order to be taken serious. Therefore, we see the work of collecting information from international media and NGOs as well as civil society actors in the particular field of refugee and asylum seekers as crucial to contribute to an improvement of the situation.

This blog functions as a platform of regular contribution in the form of reports on local happenings, comments on published academic and non-academic articles and publication of research related to the field.

    A #CRAP way to improve #usability
    ►http://www.userfocus.co.uk/articles/A_CRAP_way_to_improve_usability.html

Visual design is often dismissed as eye candy. In fact, we can use four key principles of visual design to create more usable interfaces. These principles are #Contrast, #Repetition, #Alignment and #Proximity.
