Using #amazon? Your Data is Probably Already in the Hands of Foreign Companies

As big tech companies have steadily and stealthily made ever-increasing profits from using our data, governments have finally started to wake up to the fact that our #privacy is being eroded. After Edward Snowden leaked evidence that the NSA had been spying on citizens across the globe, the European Parliament passed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), imposing extensive requirements on organizations that process the data of EU citizens. The US has been slower to regulate. However, from March of this year, all 50 US states now have laws that require data processors to inform citizens in case of a data breach. Not quite as far-reaching as the GDPR, but it’s a start. The Limitations of RegulationRegulations that protect our data and privacy create a deterrent for companies who (...)

How #blockchain can solve the #facebook problem
    ▻https://hackernoon.com/how-blockchain-can-solve-the-facebook-problem-bb05ffc4159e?source=rss---

Maybe you’ve heard. Facebook has a problem. Quite a few of them. It all started with the ads Russia bought to tip the 2016 presidential election. It culminated with the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The data of about 87 million users has been exposed without their consent. And in-between, there were revelations about Facebook retaining users’ deleted videos, the whole “fake news” controversy, the systematic scanning of photos shared on Messenger, Zuck’s superpower to delete his own messages from other people’s inboxes, and so on.These scandals seem to come from all places. But they have one thing in common. They show how powerful Facebook has become, and how Facebook is making use of its power: to benefit Facebook first and foremost. Most often to the detriment of its own users. Some even argue, (...)

As Lawrence Lessig explained on January, 1st 2000, Code is Law!Computer systems, and more specifically software and data networks, have been driving the way the world has evolved recently. Software is now everywhere: in cars, trains and planes, in your house, in businesses and in industry.Smartphones are taking over our livesSince 2007, software has also taken control in our personal lives: smartphones have become our companions of life. They empower us with new abilities. They help us find information quickly, they help us with directions, they help us to communicate quickly and at a low cost with other people anywhere in the world. The digital age we’re presently living in is a “far west quest”. The few who understand how things work are releasing products which often gain quick and (...)

#DeleteFacebook! RegulateFacebook! The world is justifiably up in arms over #facebook. @SmitaPrakash on Twitter had this to say:Stop the mind manipulation. Clear apps that are collecting your data to sell it further. Do it for your parents, if they can’t. Because they are voters too. Do it for your children. There is no question that Facebook has been a terrible steward of the public trust. M.G. Seigler’s piece on the subject goes into much more detail if you want to learn more about Facebook’s fumbles. (More on Mr. Seigler below.)They are telling us that deleting Facebook is the easiest way off this ride we are being taken on by data brokers. At best, this is a tactical fix. Worse is the possibility that the very sentiment manipulation that Facebook is being accused of is being weaponized to (...)

Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaks on stage during the annual Facebook F8 developers conference in San Jose, California, U.S., April 18, 2017. Stephen Lam/ReutersOn Sunday, Facebook disabled Christopher Wylie’s account on Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram after blowing the whistle for a 50m file data breach. According to Facebook, “The claim that this is a data breach is completely false. Dr. Aleksandr Kogan requested and gained access to information from users who chose to sign up to his app, and everyone involved gave their consent. People knowingly provided their information, no systems were infiltrated, and no passwords or sensitive pieces of information were stolen or hacked.”Technically, they are right; there was no hacking involved in the process. But, still there has (...)

Who hacked the US election?Who has benefited most from US government policy since the election? Not Russia.Cambridge Analytica in association with British and Israeli intelligence operatives, associated with MI5, MI6 and, Mossad have been exposed as actively hacking democracies and psychologically abusing citizens around the world. When we say hacked in this context, we do not necessarily mean hacking a computer, rather we are looking at the end user experience, so we are talking about hacking public consciousness.Watch the Cambridge Analytica video expose then let’s start to examine the threads that this reveals.▻https://medium.com/media/181c3861d993a75dff4234a97a9fb69d/hrefGiven this insider admission at the highest levels that the governments of the US and Britain both worked closely with a (...)
