►http://actuarabe.com/resterons-marge-monde-ne-donnons-de-pouvoir-aux-femmes

]]>Panama Papers and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists: links to media of Saudi princes
▻http://angryarab.blogspot.fr/2016/04/panama-papers-and-international.html
For some reason, the mouthpiece of Prince Khalid Bin Sultan, Al-Hayat, is part of the Arab media represented in the Arabic branch (ARIJ) of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. The media of Saudi princes are not known, naturally, for any investigative work. I thought it was a lapse. So I decided to visit the website of the International Consortium: and lo and behold they also picked a writer for the mouthpiece of Prince Khalid Bin Sultan, Al-Hayat, as one of “our journalists”. I have seen her name but have not read much by her so I decided to do just that: while I didn’t find any investigative journalism, obviously—what do you expect in the media of Saudi princes—I did find the usual propaganda in Saudi regime media and even found an article in which she said that there is freedom in oil regime media and that anybody who criticize Saudi regime media must be a supporter of the Iranian regime. There is one article (and many of her articles are typical diatribes against Hizbullah and other enemies of Saudi regime) in which she considers the terrorism by Syrian Jihadi groups in Lebanon as beneficial as they bring balance to politics in Lebanon. Kid you not. Also, the International Consortium includes Yossi Melman, who has been for years the voice of the Israeli military-intelligence apparatus. Finally, for some reason the International Consortium and its Arabic branch have been attacking Wikileaks for some inexplicable reason.

Bachar a gagné ! »

The third funding source was exposed by otolaryngologist Siruwan al-Mosuli. He said that lately he noticed unusual movement within medical facilities in Mosul. Arab and foreign surgeons were hired, but prohibited from mixing with local doctors. Information then leaked about organ selling. Surgeries take place within a hospital and organs are quickly transported through networks specialized in trafficking human organs. Mosuli said that the organs come from fallen fighters who were quickly transported to the hospital, injured people who were abandoned or individuals who were kidnapped.
He said that organ sales yield large profits. A specialized mafia is engaged in these operations, in addition to medical institutions working in other countries. Without coordination among these parties, such a trade cannot be sustained, he said. According to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the organization sells bodies and organs of injured people they arrest.

A majority of young Saudi men and women in colleges study subjects which are not in demand in the labor market, an economist was quoted as saying in a section of the Arabic press here on Saturday.
It is important that high school graduates focus on technical and vocational training, especially in light of the fact that 90 percent of those who signed up for Hafiz Unemployment Aid Program hold degrees with specializations unsuitable for the market, Dr. John Sfakianakis, chief economist at Saudi-Fransi Bank, told Al-Hayat newspaper.
Some 46 percent or 290,000 of the kingdom’s unemployed youth hold bachelor’s degrees. The percentage of unemployed women with bachelor’s degrees stands at 88 percent. Hafiz program has 320,000 applicants in its database.
Sfakianakis believes that the percentage of high school students admitted into college should be reduced. Official reports indicate that 78 percent of high school graduates have joined universities this year, the highest around the world, compared with 56 percent in member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
What is really alarming is the fact that currently 63 percent of Saudi students are enrolled in majors unsuitable for the needs of the labor market such as education, humanities, social sciences, and Islamic studies. The private sector is not interested in such specializations, said Dr. Sfakianakis.
“High school graduates should be encouraged to enroll in technical and vocational colleges,” noted Sfakianakis.
Only 9 percent of high school graduates have taken up technical and vocational programs in the kingdom compared with 41 percent in OECD member countries and 37 percent in Turkey. The global average of students who join technical and vocational colleges is 40 percent.

In announcing the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in the areas of Iraq and Syria it controls on June 30 and calling on Muslims everywhere to vow allegiance to its self-styled caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) displayed global ambitions. Whether these are real or not, many outsiders assume that its appeal extends far beyond the borders of Iraq. But in fact ISIS is following a well-worn path for taking power and consolidating it in the limited geographical space of a single nation-state where its true social base lies.
This constrains ISIS’s hope of gaining significantly broader strategic depth, and belies its claims of representing a universal Muslim community, let alone of exercising meaningful authority over them. Despite the spectacular drama of its swift advances in Iraq in June, reality is more pragmatic: ISIS advanced in its own “natural” habitat, whose outer boundaries it has already reached. Iraq is where ISIS survived after the defeat of the Sunni insurgency in 2006-2008 and subsequently revived, and where the fate of its Islamic state will be decided.

]]>Preparing a framework agreement || Palestinian official: U.S. pressing us to recognize Israel as Jewish state
▻http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/.premium-1.564032
Et la main-mise sur la #vallée_du_Jourdain
The United States has accepted Israel’s position that any peace agreement with the Palestinians must include recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, the London-based Arabic daily Al-Hayat reported Tuesday morning, quoting senior Palestinian officials.
Furthermore, Al-Hayat reported, the Americans are pressuring the Palestinians to accept the Israeli demand and agree to its inclusion in the framework agreement U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is formulating.
The report comes less than a week after another report in Palestinian media that accused Kerry of siding with the Israelis on security issues, and quoted one Palestinian official as saying that Kerry would “bear responsibility” if peace talks failed. “He is not operating as a neutral sponsor and mediator,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the Al-Hayat report also raised the issue of future security arrangements and how they would affect control over the Jordan Valley. According to the senior Palestinian officials quoted in the report, Israel has been presenting the issue of the Jordan Valley as separate from the core issues defined in the Oslo Accords — namely, borders, refugees, Israeli settlements in the West Bank, security issues and water sources.
The Palestinian officials said that Israel’s position — that the Jordan Valley be discussed separately from other security matters — is holding up the peace process, as the strategic valley has been discussed in the context of security arrangements since the signing of the Oslo Accords.
According to one official quoted in the report, Israel is increasing the number of issues on the table to slow down negotiations and convolute the process to avoid progress. If the U.S. presents a framework agreement that includes Palestinian recognition of Israel as a Jewish state and Israeli security and military presence in the Jordan Valley, one official told Al-Hayat, no pragmatic results will emerge from these negotiations. Furthermore, the official said, Israel will focus on these two issues, leaving aside the other matters, and will continue to create facts on the ground through the continued construction in West Bank settlements.
In the last meeting between Kerry and Palestinian officials held in Ramallah on Friday, it was reported that the atmosphere was problematic and that Palestinians were not confident about the continuation of the talks and about its results, despite Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ declared commitment to the nine-month negotiating period with Israel.
Kerry on Friday shrugged off predictions of failure, saying that Israelis and Palestinians remained committed to peace talks and were on course to wrap up a full deal by April.

Regarding Egyptian patronage and Cairo’s role in sponsoring the Palestinian reconciliation, and in light of the current situation and the status quo in Egypt, Rajoub said, “We approve everything in the Egyptian agreement. However, the Egyptians have been embittered because Palestinians are messing with Egypt’s national security.” This was said in reference to the latest statements to Al-Hayat by the Egyptian Interior Minister Nabil Fahmy.

]]>Egypt threatens Hamas with military response to Sinai attacks - Haaretz
▻http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-east/1.548863
Egypt has warned of a military response if Hamas or other Palestinian groups try to violate Egyptian security, increasing tension over what Cairo says is support from Gaza for Islamist militants operating in the Sinai Peninsula.
Egypt’s army says militants from Hamas-run Gaza have staged joint attacks with hardline Islamists in North Sinai, where the government has ramped up security operations after a surge of violence set off by President Mohamed Morsi’s downfall in July.
Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy told the London-based newspaper al-Hayat there was “tension” in Cairo’s relationship with Hamas, an ideological offshoot of Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood. He suggested Hamas was not helping enough to secure the border.
The Sinai militants expanded into a security vacuum that emerged after president Hosni Mubarak was ousted by a popular uprising in 2011.
“If Hamas proves through actions and not words - and unfortunately there are many negative indicators - its good intentions, then it will find an Egyptian party that ... protects the Palestinian side,” Fahmy said.
“If we feel that there are parties in Hamas or other parties trying to violate Egyptian national security, our response will be severe,” said Fahmy, foreign minister in the army-installed cabinet that came to office after Morsi was deposed by the army.
Asked whether any response would include a closure of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, Fahmy said: “Options are military-security, and not options that result in suffering for the Palestinian citizen.”
The Rafah crossing is the only way in and out of Gaza not controlled by Israel, with which Egypt made peace in 1979.
Fahmy did not elaborate on what kind of military action Cairo might take.
Hamas has denied Egypt’s accusations. A spokesman for the Hamas government said Fahmy’s comments “contradicted Egypt’s history and role in protecting the Palestinian nation.”
Fahmy said: “There are very many flaws in the Hamas relationship with the former (Morsi) regime, and the relationship of Hamas, or other Palestinian Islamist parties, with terror activity in Sinai.”
Morsi, deposed on July 3 after mass protests against his rule, is being investigated on accusations of conspiring with Hamas when he escaped from prison during the uprising against Mubarak.
Egypt’s army spokesman said at a Sept. 15 briefing the military was clearing buildings deemed a security threat at a distance of up to one km (0.6 miles) from the Gaza border.
The spokesman declined to accuse Hamas directly of attacks, although he said hand grenades stamped with the name of the Palestinian group’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, had been found in the security sweep under way in Sinai.

A Saudi motorist died and a passenger was wounded on Tuesday when a religious police vehicle rammed into their car launching it through the guard rails of an overpass in Riyadh, a newspaper reported. A patrol of the notorious police, known unofficially as Mutawaa, chased two young men travelling in a sedan before crashing into their vehicle, forcing it off an overpass and onto a lower-level road, Al-Hayat daily said. The patrol vehicle fled the scene instantly, the daily said. read (...)

More Problems Than Ever
By: Tamer al-Samadi Translated from Al-Hayat (Pan Arab)
“To avoid the collapse of the economy, Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour is likely to take harsh decisions in the coming period, starting by raising electricity prices, which would surely go beyond the gradual cancelation of subsidies on bread and other commodities. This is seen as an attempt to obtain a financial loan worth $2 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, these decisions that have yet to be announced reflect the deep trouble Ensour is likely to face in the coming period. Ensour has an economic mindset. He was educated in the United States and France and his reputation has yet to be tarnished with accusations of corruption.
The biggest challenge facing the government — mired in economic and political complexities — is the bloody violence that has been gripping the city of Maan in southern Jordan for four days”.
(…) Official circles revealed to Al-Hayat that the Syrian file’s successive developments “urged powerful leading figures within the state to demand the current government’s dismissal and the declaration of the war cabinet as soon as possible in order to counter the repercussions of the Syrian disaster, [as] anticipated by the Hashemite Kingdom.”
]]>Egypt to shut hotels if staff sexually harass tourists
▻http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/3/12/70739/Business/Economy/Egypt-to-shut-hotels-if-staff-sexually-harass-tour.aspx
"Foreign travel agents have complained about the inappropriate behavior of some hotel staff towards tourists,” Zaazou told Al-Hayat 2 private satellite channel on Saturday. “They threaten to remove Egypt from their list of tourist destinations.” Zaazou told Ahram Online on Sunday that he would meet with members of the Egyptian Hotels Association to discuss the move.
“I am determined to close hotels where sexual harassment has taken place because this behavior has an impact on the country’s reputation,” Zaazou asserted.
The tourism ministry has recorded 150 cases of sexual harassment against tourists over the last two years. There have also been three recorded rapes in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Around 4 million Egyptians work in the tourism sector, according to official data.
