My blogs chronicle my experience as a technologist making my way into Silicon Valley. I am a queer person of color, gender non-conforming, immigrant, and ex-foster youth. I come from a non-traditional coding background. I studied a few CS courses in college and ended up majoring in the humanities before becoming a teacher. L’innovation #informatique demeure une chasse gardée masculine et les #femmes, plutôt que de s’y engager peu à peu comme elles le font pour d’autres secteurs, tendent à la déserter, ou à s’en tenir à distance. Certes, on note une petite amélioration dans la présence des femmes dans les fonctions managériales des entreprises du Net, telle Sheryl Sandberg, directrice générale de Facebook, Nunu Ntshingila qui dirige Facebook Afrique ou Meg Whitman, directrice générale de Hewlett Packard Entreprise. Les femmes pénètrent progressivement l’univers économique du Web – par exemple, en France, le métier de Community Manager est occupé à près de 60% par des femmes[8] . Soulignons néanmoins qu’elles marquent le pas dans l’expertise des Computer Sciences – les raisons de ce rejet sont bien documentées et mériteraient un autre article.

La cause semble entendue : dans le design du futur les hommes sont aux manettes. De surcroît, s’ils marquent de leur imagination créatrice les infrastructures du numérique, ils imposent tout aussi subrepticement leur pouvoir dans les nouveaux systèmes de gouvernance, tant ils détiennent un magistère technique qu’il est presque impossible de défier.
