C’est en effet aux États-Unis dans les années 1910, que sont posés les premiers jalons de la lutte pour le contrôle des naissances, dans le sillage d’une pionnière : Margaret Sanger. "Sanger, qui a grandi dans une famille irlandaise et catholique, est frappée dès son plus jeune âge par la pauvreté. Sa mère a 11 enfants et fait de nombreuses fausses-couches, mourant prématurément à l’âge de 50 ans. La jeune Margaret comprend alors que les grossesses à répétition de sa mère ont eu raison de sa santé et que l’impossibilité pour une femme de choisir quand et combien d’enfants elle souhaite avoir est contraire aux droits humains fondamentaux." (source C) En 1914, la jeune femme travaille comme infirmière et sage-femme dans le Lower East-Side, un des quartiers les plus misérables de New-York. Elle y intervient auprès de femmes confrontées à des grossesses à répétition et aux avortements clandestins. Désarmée dans un premier temps face à la détresse de ces femmes, Sanger milite bientôt pour le contrôle des naissances et l’accès à la contraception. Elle invente alors l’expression de "birth control". En 1916, elle fonde sa première clinique de planification familiale à Brooklyn.

Née dans les années 1930 dans le Kentucky, cette chanteuse de country très populaire compose dans un premier temps des morceaux qui s’inscrivent dans la veine conservatrice du genre musical de Nashville. Elle défend la virginité prénuptiale dans What kind of a girl (do you think I am) (1967) ou assigne les femmes aux tâches ménagères. Dans To make a man (feel like a man). The Other Woman, elle paraît même justifier les violences conjugales : "Votre mari vous bat chaque soir à la maison, mais vous lui en avez donné le droit." Mais bientôt, le ton change. En 1971, Lynn assimile la bague des mariés à une entrave, une chaîne. "Je vais retirer cette chaîne de mon doigt / Et la jeter aussi loin que possible / Parce que je veux être libre". Quatre ans plus tard, avec The Pill, Lynn vante les vertus de la pilule dont l’usage révolutionne la vie des femmes. La chanteuse y donne la parole à une mère au foyer américaine lambda, qui rembobine le fil de sa vie conjugale ; une femme qui n’en peut plus de se faire "engrosser" à intervalle trop rapproché. Chaque année, elle tombe enceinte, ce qui permet à son mari de l’enchaîner à la maison. "Tu m’as fait promettre que si je devenais ta femme, / tu me montrerais le monde, / mais tout ce que j’ai vu de ce vieux monde / c’est un lit et une facture de médecin". Pendant ce temps là, le conjoint batifole hors du foyer. ["Toutes ces années, je les ai passées à la maison / Quand toi tu t’éclatais "] Avec la pilule, les rapports au sein du couple se transforment. [C’est la dernière fois où tu m’as prise pour une poule pondeuse / Car maintenant j’ai la pilule"] La peur d’enfanter à chaque relation sexuelle s’estompe ce qui libère la libido. ["Je me rattrape pour toutes ces années, depuis que j’ai la pilule. / La pénombre gagne, c’est le moment de s’envoyer en l’air / (...) Oh, papa, ne t’inquiète pas, car maman a la pilule"] Le récit semble bien avoir une base autobiographique dans la mesure où Loretta Lynn a eu six enfants, dont quatre avant l’âge de 20 ans. « Ça arrivait à tout le monde, mais personne n’écrivait dessus. Ils ne voulaient insulter personne. Moi, je n’ai pas pensé à ça. Quand The Pill est sortie, tout le monde disait :"encore une chanson grivoise." », se souvient Lynn.

Le 4 juin 2020, une manifestation de soutien au mouvement Black Lives Matter rassemblait des milliers de personnes à Nashville, cœur historique de l’industrie de la country music. Quelques jours plus tard, le 9 juin, le Grand Ole Opry, institution majeure de ce genre musical basée dans la capitale du Tennessee, déclare officiellement œuvrer en faveur de la diversité raciale au sein de la country music. Stimulés par les protestations nationales à la suite de l’assassinat de George Floyd à Minneapolis le 25 mai 2020, les appels de musiciens à reconnaître le racisme qui sous-tend la production de la country music s’étaient en effet multipliés, mettant en lumière de façon inédite la surreprésentation des musiciens blancs ainsi que les difficultés professionnelles et la stigmatisation des musiciens noirs. Il s’agissait également de souligner les clivages raciaux alimentés par une production musicale ciblant quasi-exclusivement les populations blanches. Comme c’est le cas pour les statues de Confédérés déboulonnées, l’histoire des débuts de la country music permet de comprendre les raisons pour lesquelles les revendications d’égalité raciale dans les espaces juridique et politique s’étendent à d’autres domaines sociaux et culturels associés au racisme et à la suprématie blanche.

Sus-tu que « I Will Always Love You » fut dédié à son mentor, Porter Wagoner sommité de Nashville, surnommé Mr Grand Ole Opry. Il a pécho Dolly en 1967, à 21 ans elle booste la popularité de son show. Le vieux briscard, de 19 ans son aîné, qui aligne les hits depuis 1955 reste dans le coup avec sa nouvelle recrue. Elle se casse sept ans plus tard, lui écrit cette chanson et largue le wagon. Il meurt d’un cancer en 2007, à Nashville. Sa famille à ses côtés, Dolly Parton aussi.

Lillie Mae a mené une enfance séquestrée en tournée dans un camping-car avec ses parents musiciens, contraints par les frontières religieuses. À l’adolescence, elle a fait la navette entre les parcs de camping-cars et le Rio Grande, a fréquenté les clubs de Nashville et a atteint le Top 40 national dans son groupe frère Jypsi, mais dans Other Girls, une nouvelle facette d’elle-même émerge avec plus de choses à dire que jamais.
Elle se réjouit de ses triomphes personnels sur « I Came For The Band (For Show) », apporte une nouvelle perspective à « Terlingual Girl », une chanson qu’elle a écrite à 19 ans dans le désert du Sud-Texan, et professe des vérités courageuses comme celles entendues dans « You’ve Got Other Girls for That ». Après un passé de vagabonde, croisant des centaines de musiciens, elle limite la distribution d’"Other Girls" à son frère, sa soeur et à quelques collaborateurs de confiance.

Surnommé le Mark Twain des songwriters, #John_Prine préférait simplement dire qu’écrire avait été la seule chose qu’il avait jamais su faire. Une chose est sûre : avec sa disparition l’Amérique perd l’un de ses grands poètes folk, countryman du Midwest et chroniqueur des gens ordinaires, du désastre, de l’amour et des regrets qu’il traitait souvent avec empathie et humour dans ses ballades.

Bungalow Sessions sur Kizmiaz. C’est à la base un documentaire de Nicolas Drolc , un Nancéen, celui-là même qui avait commis Sur les toits , un film sur la révolte des prisons françaises au début des années 70 (avec une bande son signée King Automatic, Mr Verdun, etc.) et avant ça La mort se mérite , son préféré des trois, le portrait de #Serge_Livrozet, personnage atypique dans une société en pleine mutation … Et donc, le Drôle présentait son film dans un bar toulousain avec un live d’Andy Pale Petty à la suite. Magnifiques images, dans un noir et blanc profond, magnifique parole que celle portée par la plupart des artistes, Dan Kroha, Rev, Deadeye, Possessed by Paul James…
Tous décalés, mais complètement conscients de la folie du monde moderne… Un film à voir et à écouter donc !

In 1999 “Edinburgh’s least favorite sons,” the Country Teasers, made their Fat Possum/Epitaph debut with their third LP, Destroy All Human Life. Many saw it as an unusual move for a label with a roster primarily made up of aging African-American bluesmen to sign a Scottish band with a reputation for writing racist, sexist, generally misanthropic songs. However, the folks at Fat Possum were clued-in enough to know that the Country Teasers use incendiary lyrics as a way to exaggerate hot-button issues in such a way as to make obvious just how ridiculous it would be if they (or anyone else) truly subscribed to such bigoted beliefs — exaggerated social satire much in the vein of Jonathan Swift’s infamous address of homelessness, A Modest Proposal. Pristine in production and performance in comparison to earlier efforts, for the first time on a Country Teasers record all of the instruments can be deciphered, including the addition of piano on several songs, and most of Ben Wallers’ lyrics can be readily understood. Whereas the sheer racket of earlier releases would have you believe otherwise, the Country Teasers are actually talented musicians.
Je découvre Crypt Records et selon P.Escobar qui a l’air d’en connaître un rayon, aussi, en « têtes de gondoles » le label teuton est selon lui le meilleur du wock’n’woll.

Increased insurgent attacks on civilians in Afghanistan have left victims’ families and survivors in dire need of financial, medical, and psychosocial support, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The Afghan government should ensure programs to assist victims of attacks by the Taliban and Islamic State-linked armed groups reach those in need.
“Insurgents who detonate bombs in mosques or at busy intersections with the intent of inflicting maximum civilian casualties are committing war crimes,” said Patricia Gossman, senior Afghanistan researcher at Human Rights Watch and author of the report. “Victims’ families and survivors may lose livelihoods and suffer harms that persist long after the attack. The Netherlands – Amsterdam Court blocks return of Afghan national due to the dangerous security situation in #Kunduz Province
On 7 September, the Administrative Chamber of the Court of Amsterdam decided on the case of an Afghan national, who had fled his country on the grounds of being the target of Taliban groups. A decision by the Secretary for Justice and Security had rejected the applicant’s request to be granted a temporary residence permit, leading the applicant to bring the case before the administrative judicial authorities.
The Administrative Court considered, inter alia, that the domestic authorities denied temporary residence status, without referring to the security situation in the province of Kunduz – the applicant’s region of origin. It noted that since the contested decision was made, updated information on the security situation in Afghanistan had become available, including an official report by the Dutch authorities, as well as the 2018 EASO report and respective guidance note. After examining the reports, the Court decided that the number of security incidents had to be considered as high, despite a decrease in comparison to 2016.
More specifically, it noted that the deterioration of the situation in Kunduz is rather evident, being one of the four provinces with ’very high protection concerns’ due to the large number of displaced people and returnees, with IEDs also posing serious dangers. The Court concluded that the security situation in Kunduz is very serious, while the applicant’s age and gender should also be taken into consideration, as he remains a target of interest for Taliban groups recruiting local young men. The Court sent the case back to the domestic authorities for reconsideration according to the appellate judgment’s findings.

La gentrification des « espaces naturels » en Angleterre : après le front écologique, l’occupation ?

One feature of the UK, and even more of England, is the high population density and degree of its urbanisation. In this peculiar context, and from different points of view (landscape, functional, land use, symbolic or social), the least artificialized spaces, either rural or natural spaces, represents a very specific value. Reinforced in this way by numbers of protection policies and devices, like the National Parks for instance, rural and natural spaces became some desired and lusted for places, particularly by people looking for their amenities. Some people practise outdoor activities or tourism, which are often socially selective, but others decide to settle and inhabit there, contributing most of the time to the gentrification of the countryside. Relying on the Lake District area, this article aims to focus on the link existing between the concepts of eco frontier on one hand and rural gentrification on the other hand. But it is also assumed that this link would allow a better analysis of the gentrification process and of its local modalities.....

Il fera bientôt 1 an que la communauté du Woelab s’est lancé dans la fabrication d’une imprimante 3D qu’elle a nommé la W.Afate, du prénom de l’initiateur de ce projet Afate Gnikou et du W. tiré du Woelab le tout premier fablab au Togo, le fablab où le projet est incubé.

Country migration profile by Migreurop : Serbia
Since the 1960s, Serbia has been primarily the country of emigration : like hundreds of thousands citizens of ex-Yugoslavia, Serbians migrated to the countries of Western Europe, as temporary or “guest” workers (gastarbeiter). During the conflicts following the break-down of Yugoslavia, there were both many people who sought safety in Serbia and many Serbians who left to go to the countries of Western Europe. The term “refugee” (izbeglica) is now used to refer to people, most often of Serbian ethnicity, who fled Bosnia and Croatia and sought refuge in Serbia. It is estimated that there are around 86 000 Bosnian and Croatian refugees, as well as 206 000 internally-displaced persons who fled the armed conflicts in Kosovo, living in Serbia, many of whom still live in so called collective centres they were accommodated in when they first arrived, and face obstacles in their integration with the rest of the society. They remain most the visible and represented group of “migrants” in Serbia.
Serbia is a good example of a country, which has been turned into a “buffer” zone of the Fortress Europe, through the externalisation of the EU migration policy onto Serbia. While Serbia has been a country of transit for migrants from Asia and Africa, the number of non-ex-Yugoslav migrants stuck in Serbia has been increasing in the recent years, due to the increasing pressures from the European Union (EU) for Serbia to harmonise its policies with the EU migration policies. Since the 1st of March 2012, Serbia is officially a candidate to join the EU [1].
