Executive summary: when you accidentally publish your Amazon credentials on Github, they are detected and actually used by bad guys in a few hours. Which means they actively monitor public sources like Github to find passwords and keys. [Do they monitor SeenThis as well?]
Also, do note that Amazon itself does the same (scraping Github) to find leaks.
