À 26 ans, Tom Simon, Ahmed Idris Hussein pour la vie artistique, sort un premier album : Help Myself. Un bijou musical aux confins du blues, hip-hop, soul et reggae.

Né à Djibouti en 1995, Ahmed Idris Hussein est devenu Tom Simon après son adoption. Depuis l’âge de 15 ans, le jeune homme a vécu un parcours chaotique, entre foyers d’accueil et couloirs judiciaires, « quand les limites explosent ».

Son recours face à cette vie pas facile : la musique. Tom a commencé très jeune à gratter sa guitare et est devenu rapidement un musicien talentueux. « Tous ceux qui l’ont entendu peuvent en témoigner », souligne un copain. Ses influences musicales : « Le blues, le reggae, une pointe de jazz et de rap. »
On retrouve dans son univers autodidacte l’influence d’artistes comme Gorillaz, Amy Whinehouse, Damian Marley, « sans oublier l’incontournable J. J. Cale, qui reste pour moi le guitariste de référence ».

« La prison tue l’inspiration »
Après une première participation à un groupe, Tom a décidé de se consacrer à la création. Pour lui, pas question de courir après la notoriété et de venir faire les yeux doux aux maisons de disques et aux grandes scènes : « Je me suis construit en tant que musicien en jouant dans la rue. »

Un univers de rencontres et d’expériences diverses, qui lui a offert une voix de bluesman, troublante ressemblance avec celle du grand Tom Waits.

En 2019, Tom a repris comme nom d’artiste son patronyme originel, Ahmed Idris Hussein, et écrit onze titres, pour la plupart biographiques, tous en anglais. « Le français est bien pour la poésie, l’anglais se prête mieux à au débit de paroles qu’exige ce style de musique. »

Pour le jeune homme, « cet album est l’amalgame de vécus et d’influences variées qui donnent naissance à un hip-hop teinté de soul, de blues et de reggae ».

Restait à transformer ces textes en album : « Cela a été rendu possible grâce à mes frères d’amitié, FL-How et Tideux. Ils ont créé des musiques inspirantes, qui ont permis de mettre en scène mes textes. »

Incarcéré à la maison d’arrêt de Brest, Ahmed a pu compter aussi sur ses amis, « qui m’ont soutenu pour produire l’album ».

Une aventure rendue possible grâce au soutien de sa mère, « toujours présente, même dans les pires moments ». Ils ont organisé une cagnotte sur Internet et permis de financer la production de l’album, en CD et en vinyle.

Pour Ahmed, la sortie de l’album et la marque des soutiens reçus est une grande satisfaction. « Plus qu’un simple album écrit et enregistré en six mois, c’est pour moi une thérapie et une échappatoire à la prison. »
Difficile pourtant d’espérer, pour l’instant, l’ébauche d’un deuxième album : « La prison tue l’inspiration », souffle le jeune homme, qui rêve de retrouver sa guitare et refaire des projets de vie, « où la musique sera toujours présente ».

Avec son cinquième album, « Renegade Breakdown », la Canadienne Marie Davidson semble être arrivée au sommet de son art ; rappelant aux uns qu’il est inutile d’être un homme pour penser une musique synthétique ambitieuse, aux autres que se revendiquer femme ne suffit pas toujours à s’imposer entre deux paires de testicules. Au centre de ce débat, une énorme boule de feu dévale sur le dancefloor et c’est l’une des plus belles jouissances de cette rentrée sans orgasme.

The EDM scene has long been known for drug use, but the researchers warn that the turn to opioids is a dangerous trend that should not be ignored.

“We’ve always known that electronic dance music party attendees are at high risk for use of club drugs such as ecstasy or Molly, but we wanted to know the extent of opioid use in this population,” said Palamar, the study’s lead author and an associate professor of population health at NYU School of Medicine.

The most popular prescription opioid reported in this scene was Oxycontin, which, like many prescription opioids, is used to relieve pain, but also produces euphoric effects, inducing relaxation and happiness. Following close behind were Vicodin, Percocet, codeine, and Purple Drank. About 15 percent of opioid users reported snorting them, while 11 percent reported injecting them, both forms of ingestion more likely to result in dependence.

People who had already used opioids reported a much higher propensity for using them again than did people who had never used them. Among previous users, nearly three-quarters (73.4 percent) said they would do them again, while only about 6 percent of non-users said they would try them if offered.
