    TL;DR: ostracism causes #disengagement:

    Ostracism led to reduced goal attainability: Participants who were excluded reported a decreased belief in being able to achieve their goal of belonging to the group. This is a core sign of goal blockage, which often precedes disengagement. Explicit disengagement occurred: Excluded participants showed affective-cognitive disengagement (e.g., devaluing the group) and behavioral disengagement (e.g., deprioritizing ostracizing group members). These are clear markers of goal disengagement in response to ostracism.

    Limitations or qualifications:

    Implicit attitudes didn’t change: Despite explicit disengagement, participants still held positive automatic (implicit) biases toward their original group. This suggests that sub-personal (unconscious) (...)
