The business of #Artificial_intelligence and the #equity challenge
    ▻https://redasadki.me/2025/06/13/the-business-of-artificial-intelligence-and-the-equity-challenge

Since 2019, when #The_Geneva_Learning_Foundation (TGLF) launched its first AI pilot project, we have been exploring how the #Second_Machine_Age is reshaping learning. Ahead of the release of the first framework for AI in global health, I had a chance to sit down with a group of Swiss business leaders at the PanoramAI conference in Lausanne on 5 June 2025 to share TGLF’s insights about the significance and potential of #Artificial_Intelligence for global health and humanitarian response. Here is the article posted by the conference to recap a few of the take-aways. The Global Equity Challenger At the Panoramai AI Summit, Reda Sadki, leader of The Geneva Learning Foundation, delivered provocative insights about AI’s impact on global equity and the future of human work. Drawing from (...)

Patterns of prejudice: Connecting the dots helps health workers combat #bias worldwide
    ▻https://redasadki.me/2025/04/12/patterns-of-prejudice-connecting-the-dots-helps-health-workers-combat-bias

English | Français “I noticed that every time he went to appointments or emergency services, he was often met with suspicion or treated as if he was exaggerating his symptoms,” shared a community support worker from Canada, describing how an Indigenous teenager waited three months for mental health services while non-Indigenous youth were seen within weeks. This testimony was just one of hundreds shared during an unusual global gathering where frontline health workers confronted an uncomfortable truth: healthcare systems worldwide are riddled with biases that determine who lives and who dies. “Equity Matters: A Practical Approach to Identify and Eliminate Biases,” a #special_event hosted by the Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) on 10-11 April 2025, drew nearly 5,000 health professionals (...)

We reached out to 1,723 senior decision makers working in #Global_health about the new #Certificate_peer_learning_programme_for_equity_in_research_and_practice. Crickets. One CEO wrote: “We aren’t currently in a position to enter into new strategic partnerships on the topic.” The chilling effect is real. Many organizations are retreating from publicly championing #equity work—even those with deep commitments to fairness and #inclusion. But here’s the opportunity: While public discourse faces headwinds, meaningful work continues through trusted networks and communities of practice. This is precisely when innovation in equity approaches accelerates—away from the spotlight but with profound impact. The evidence is clear: health systems that neglect equity waste resources and deliver poorer (...)

    Widening inequities : #immunization Agenda 2030 remains “off-track”

The WHO Director General’s report to the 154th session of the Executive Board on progress towards the #Immunization_Agenda_2030 (IA2030) goals paints a “sobering picture” of uneven global recovery since #COVID-19. As of 2022, 3 out of 7 main impact indicators remain “off-track”, including numbers of #zero-dose children, future deaths averted through vaccination, and outbreak control targets. Current evidence indicates substantial acceleration is essential in order to shift indicators out of the “off-track” categories over the next 7 years. While some indicators showed recovery from pandemic backsliding, the report makes clear these improvements are generally insufficient to achieve targets set for 2030. While some indicators have improved from 2021, overall performance still “lags 2019 levels” (...)

Four-year monthly vestYou thought you were getting that fat 0.1% equity stake the moment you signed? Think again, friend. You’re going to receive it piecemeal, on a regular schedule referred to as a “vesting schedule.” Think of it as your company’s layaway plan for paying out your equity grant.Literal Definition: You will receive a fraction of your equity package each month, and if you’re still working there in four years, you will have your entire package.Practical Definition: You’re probably not going to earn (...)

Your #equity Could Be Worth Millions — Or NothingIllustration by Meredith MiotkeIn 2014, mobile security startup Good Technology was valued at $1.1 billion. Employees thought their equity packages were winning lottery tickets. They were wrong. One year later, Good sold for $425 million. Employee share prices tumbled from $4.32 a share to $0.44. While executives made millions, employees — some of whom paid $100,000+ in taxes on their equity — made next to nothing.Good Technology’s situation isn’t uncommon. Like so many startups, it had investors and board members whose equity was protected by high liquidation preference — a guarantee that they get paid first and at least a certain amount when the company sells. When startup investors make millions in a sale, but money runs dry before reaching employees, a (...)

2018 reflected: equity crowdfunding, silver linings, and Grandma. As 2018 is coming to an end, I thought I’d spend some time to reflect on the two most important lessons I learned in 2018, the first one about what’d predict success in an equity crowdfunding, and the second one about silver linings in trying times.Lesson 1: Equity crowdfunding is powerful and empowering, but not for everyone. It makes the most sense when your business is 1. community-oriented and 2. independently-owned.Why community-oriented?Since the launch, startengine.com/hackernoon has attracted 38,000 visits, >85% of which is from the Hacker Noon community. We put the campaign link atop #hackernoon.com, our newsletters, our social media channels and other media assets. It’s clear: our community does rally behind us. (...)

What Startups Need to Know if they’re going to Sell Securities in the US? (Reg D, Reg CF, Reg A+, WTF..)The goal of this article is to give a brief overview of the rules that are issued by the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). This is an attempt of the author to go in-depth and have an updated guide about the rules for selling securities in the US. All materials in this article are for informational purposes only. None of the material presented here should be interpreted as investment advice. The main revolution in #crowdfunding happened back in 2012 when US President Barack Obama signed the JOBS Act (Jumpstart Our Business Startups), which gave people more freedom to raise capital for “emerging growth companies” (with annual gross revenues of less than $1 bln). Starting from that (...)
