BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man on Monday afternoon after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli soldier at the Huwwara checkpoint south of Nablus, Israel’s army said.

An Israeli army spokesperson said that as the Palestinian approached the checkpoint, he “drew a knife and attempted to attack a soldier.”

She said that the soldier “responded to the immediate danger” and opened fire on the Palestinian, “resulting in his death.”

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the attacker to Ma’an as Alaa Khalil Sabah Hashah , 16.

A Palestinian woman identified as Samah Abd al-Mumen Ahmad from Ammuriya village was shot in the head in the crossfire, witnesses said.

A bus driver, Adham al-Sharfa, told Ma’an: “I saw what happened with my own eyes as Israeli soldiers opened fire at a youth for attempting to stab an Israeli soldier and then several Israeli soldiers arrived and shot the youth more than 10 times and he fell to the ground.”

Palestinian security sources said Samah was shot in the head while sitting inside her car near where the incident occurred.

Her injuries were reported as critical.

No Israelis were reported injured during the incident.

Huwwara checkpoint lies just south of Nablus on a major thoroughfare for both Palestinians as well as Israelis living in illegal settlements in the northern occupied West Bank."

At approximately 14:45, Israeli forces stationed at Hawarah checkpoint, south of Nablus, shot dead a Palestinian child who had crossed the checkpoint and was present at the intersection in front of a settler bus stop. Israeli forces claimed that the child had attempted to stab 2 settlers at the bust stop. However, investigations conducted by PCHR refuted the Israeli story, as the child went out of the checkpoint in front of Israeli soldiers. He was not carrying anything and the bust stop was empty then. The child was identified later as Alaa Khalil Hashash (16) , from new Askar refugee camp, northeast of Nablus. The gunfire resulted also in wounding Samah Abed al-Mo’men Ahmed Abdullah (18), from Amoriya village, southeast of the city. She sustained a bullet wound to the head, while sitting in her father’s car as they were going home from Nablus. At approximately 20:50, the aforementioned girl was transported by a Palestinian ambulance from Rafidya Hospital to Hawarah checkpoint to be then transported by an Israeli ambulance to Tel HaShomer Hospital in Israel.

Abed al-Mo’men Ahmed Abdullah, Samah’s father, said to PCHR’s fieldworker:
"At approximately 14:45 on Monday, 23 November 2015, I was driving my car with my wife Hala Ibrahim Abdullah (36) next to me and my children in the back seat: Ahmed (16), Hanin (17) and Samah (18). Samah was inbetween Ahmed and Hanin. We went out of Nablus heading to Amoriya village, southeast of the city. While getting out of Hawarah checkpoint, I entered the intersection area and saw a boy in blue sport outfit. He was not carrying anything. I thought he was a settler, but after I drove 20 meters ahead, right in front of a settler bus stop that was empty then, Israeli forces opened fire at the boy. He fell down before he reached the bus stop. They then opened fire from a watchtower and soldiers on the ground towards my car, as my car was the last one to cross the checkpoint. I lowered my head and then heard my son screaming, “Samah got killed”. I froze and Israeli soldiers gathered around us. A Palestinian ambulance arrived and took us to Rafidya Hospital, where my daughter was admitted to the operations room. She sustained a bullet wound to the forehead."
