Easily Toggle Ubuntu’s New Wellbeing Reminders On/Off
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/05/ubuntu-wellbeing-toggle-gnome-extension

The Wellbeing controls available in #Ubuntu_25.04 make it easy to get periodic prompts to move your butt or look away from your screen — you might not want them enabled all the time, though. Wellbeing controls were one of the flagship features of #GNOME_48. As well as screen time monitoring (with controls to set a screen time limit, and turn the display greyscale when it’s reached), you can enable reminders to take a break and move. Alerts telling you to get up and move may be helpful during the day, but at nighttime when you’re, say, engrossed in […] You’re reading Easily Toggle Ubuntu’s New Wellbeing Reminders On/Off, a blog post from OMG! #GNOME Introduces New UI & Monospace Adwaita #Fonts
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/02/gnome-introduces-new-ui-monospace-adwaita-fonts

GNOME has announced a change to its default UI and monospace fonts ahead of the upcoming #GNOME_48 release — a typographic turnabout that won’t impact Ubuntu users directly, though. Should you feel a sense of deja vu here it’s because GNOME trialled a font switch last year, during #development of GNOME 47. Back then, it replaced its home-grown Cantarell font with the popular open-source sans Inter font (trivia: used by Zorin OS). The change was reverted prior to the GNOME 47 due to various UI quirks, coverage issues, and compatibility (thus underlying the importance of testing things out prior […] You’re reading GNOME Introduces New UI & Monospace Adwaita Fonts, a blog post from OMG! #GNOME_48 Expands Core Apps With New Audio Player
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/01/gnome-48-new-audio-player

When GNOME 48 is released in March it will debut with a brand-new audio player. Per a recent merge request, Decibels graduates from GNOME Incubator to GNOME Core Apps as part of GNOME 48, making the software something GNOME recommends downstream Linux distributions include to give users a fully-featured GNOME experience. You may be familiar with or even using Decibels already. I wrote about the app in late 2023, and it’s been available to install from Flathub for almost as long. For anyone not familiar with it, Decibels is a no-frills audio player designed for the GNOME desktop (but can […] You’re reading GNOME 48 Expands Core Apps With New Audio Player, a blog post from OMG! #GNOME’s New Image Viewer Adds Image Editing Features
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/12/loupe-image-viewer-adds-crop-features

Loupe (aka Image Viewer) is GNOME’s modern successor to the venerable Eye of GNOME has picked up its first batch of image editing features. The features in question were only recently merged upstream, aren’t finished, and not yet included in a stable build. But they’re an interesting addition that furthers the likelihood that #loupe could become the default image viewer on Ubuntu. At present, Ubuntu continues to use Eye of GNOME as the default tool for opening and browsing image files on desktop, despite Loupe having officially replaced it upstream in the GNOME project as a GNOME Core app. Loupe […] You’re reading GNOME’s New Image Viewer Adds Image Editing Features, a blog post from OMG! #GNOME_48: Release Date & #development Schedule
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/11/gnome-48-release-date-and-features

GNOME 47 ‘Denver’ proved a decent update to the GNOME desktop, delivering a hearty dose of new features, UI refinements, and app improvements. As those of you using Ubuntu 24.10 are no-doubt enjoying. But as one release goes out, work on the next begins. GNOME 48: Release Schedule GNOME 48 ‘Bengaluru‘ (named after the host city of the GNOME Asia Summit taking place in December) is scheduled for release on March 19, 2025. The dates for important development milestones along the way to ensure there’s ample opportunity for implementing and testing of key changes, the necessary “freeze” to solidify the […] You’re reading GNOME 48: Release Date & Development Schedule, a blog post from OMG! #Ubuntu_25.04 Officially Opens for Development
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/10/ubuntu-25-04-officially-opens-for-development

    https://149366088.v2.pressablecdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/ubuntu-25.04-406x232.jpg

Ubuntu developers today announced that Ubuntu 25.04 ‘Plucky Puffin’ is officially open for development. There’s even a release date: Ubuntu 25.04 is out on April 17, 2025. Still, that’s a way off; there are 6 months of development stretching out ahead of us. But looking in to the distance one can’t help but wonder what new features Ubuntu 25.04 will offer. It’s too early in the release cycle to know, although #GNOME_48, a newer Linux kernel (likely 6.14), and Snap app improvements are all-but a given. Still, would it be too much to hope that the #Plucky cycle finally […] You’re reading Ubuntu 25.04 Officially Opens for Development, a blog post from OMG! Ubuntu.
