WindPax is a small scale wind turbine company that specializes in portable collapsing power generating/power storage wind turbine devices. Stemming from a rich history of research and development in wind turbine technologies, WindPax was started at West Virginia University to provide access to wind power for everyone. We here at WindPax are looking to reach out and provide wind power to those with no grid access. This is a bottom up approach and can be used to help energy poverty in developing areas where it is too costly to implement standard energy grids.

Our mission is to provide innovative portable wind turbine technologies as renewable energy sources/storage devices to relieve the energy need in remote locations around the world.

WindPax is a vertical turbine with three collapsible fins that use an internal generator to produce power. A battery stick inside the device can be removed to allow users to plug in their USB and mini-USB devices. Devices can also be charged straight from the turbine.

Journalist Lea Majcen is an overnight celebrity in Slovenia, after stumping government official Tilen Smolnikar with basic interview questions about his work as head of the country’s renewable energy sector. A day after the interview, the Slovenian Infrastructure Ministry promptly dismissed Smolnikar.

On Feb. 16, Smolnikar headlined a public hearing on financing for renewable energy sources, such as windmills in Brdo near Kranj. Afterwards, Majcen tried to conduct an interview, but Smolnikar failed to answer nearly a dozen rudimentary questions about the hearing and renewable energy.

Pro-nuclear countries making slower progress on climate targets

A new study of European countries, published in the journal Climate Policy, shows that the most progress towards reducing carbon emissions and increasing renewable energy sources – as set out in the EU’s 2020 Strategy – has been made by nations without nuclear energy or with plans to reduce it.

Conversely, pro-nuclear countries have been slower to implement wind, solar and hydropower technologies and to tackle emissions.

While it’s difficult to show a causal link, the researchers say the study casts significant doubts on nuclear energy as the answer to combating climate change.

Using #renewable #energy sources as baseline electric production requires solving the problem of their intermittency. Grids are not there yet, but solutions exist in concept - what conversion to renewable energy now requires is political will to invest in engineering development.

LONDON, 1 November – The global energy system is rather like an oil supertanker, sailing the oceans with its vast cargo. Everything is fine as long as the giant ship doesn’t have to alter course or stop suddenly.

The system, overwhelmingly reliant on fossil fuels, is highly complex but over time has been remarkably resilient, delivering considerable economic growth and political and societal stability in many regions.

The trouble, according to a new report, is that climate change and other factors mean the good ship energy is having to change course – but most investors in the sector are either asleep or looking the other way.
