Ο Υφυπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας Νικόλαος Χαρδαλιάς κατά την επίσκεψη του στον Έβρο την περασμένη Δευτέρα 15 Μαΐου 2023, επισκέφθηκε το Επιτηρητικό Φυλάκιο « ΠΕΤΑΛΟΥ ΠΕΠΛΟΥ » και τον Φράχτη στην περιοχή του ελληνικού προγεφυρώματος Πετάλου.

Ο κ.Χαρδαλάς, μαζί με τον Ευρωβουλευτή και Αντιπρόεδρο της Κοινοβουλευτικής Ομάδας του Ευρωπαϊκού Λαϊκού Κόμματος στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο Ευάγγελο Μεϊμαράκη, ενημερώθηκαν για τα μέτρα επιτήρησης και φύλαξης των ελληνικών και παράλληλα ευρωπαϊκών συνόρων.

Τον Υφυπουργό Εθνικής Άμυνας συνόδευσαν οι Διοικητές του Δ΄ Σώματος Στρατού Αντιστράτηγος Δημόκριτος Κωνσταντάκος, της XII Μηχανοκίνητης Μεραρχίας Πεζικού Υποστράτηγος Χρήστος Μπακιρτζής και της 31 Μηχανοκίνητης Ταξιαρχίας Ταξίαρχος Λάζαρος Λαζαρίδης.

Ο κ.Χαρδαλιάς από τον φράχτη στην περιοχή του ελληνικού προγεφυρώματος Πετάλου έκανε την ακόλουθη δήλωση :

« Η φύλαξη των συνόρων μας αποτελεί προτεραιότητα, είναι εθνική επιταγή. Γιατί πρεσβεύει όλα όσα νοιώθουμε και πιστεύουμε για αυτή την πατρίδα. Και αυτή η πατρίδα πρέπει να είναι θωρακισμένη, να φυλάει τα σύνορά της, και είθε να είναι ασφαλής και πάνω από όλα περήφανη ! ».

Νωρίτερα είχαν επισκεφθεί το αμερικανικό μεταγωγικό πλοίο “ARC ENDURANCE”, που ελλιμενίζεται στον λιμένα της Αλεξανδρούπολης, όπου τους υποδέχθηκε ο Captain (Κυβερνήτης) Glenn Koshak.

Κατά την επίσκεψη οι κ.κ. Χαρδαλιάς και Μεϊμαράκης ενημερώθηκαν από τον Κυβερνήτη και το πλήρωμα του θηριώδους πλοίου, για τις μεταφορικές δυνατότητες του και ξεναγήθηκαν στα βασικά διαμερίσματα. Επίσης, ενημερώθηκαν από τον Πρόεδρο του Οργανισμού Λιμένος Αλεξανδρούπολης κ. Κωνσταντίνο Χατζημιχαήλ, για τον γεωστρατηγικό και εμπορικό ρόλο του λιμανιού και για τις δραστηριότητες στο πλαίσιο εφαρμογής της συμφωνίας αμοιβαίας αμυντικής συνεργασίας Ελλάδας – ΗΠΑ και επισκέφθηκαν τερματικό σημείο υποδοχής και προώθησης Αμερικανικών και συμμαχικών στρατευμάτων και στρατιωτικού υλικού στην Κεντρική και Ανατολική Ευρώπη.

Επιπρόσθετα, οι κ.κ. Χαρδαλιάς και Μεϊμαράκης συναντήθηκαν με αντιπροσωπεία Ιταλών Αξιωματικών του μεταγωγικού πλοίου “SEVERINE”, το οποίο χρησιμοποιεί το λιμάνι της Αλεξανδρούπολης για τη μεταφορά στρατιωτικού υλικού των Ιταλικών Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, στο πλαίσιο της Βορειοατλαντικής Συμμαχίας.

What I’m about to write will not come easily for me.

I used to be one of those people who took issue with the label of apartheid as applied to Israel. I was one of those people who could be counted on to argue that, while the country’s settlement and occupation policies were anti-democratic and brutal and slow-dose suicidal, the word apartheid did not apply.

I’m not one of those people any more. Not after the last few weeks.

Not after terrorists firebombed a West Bank Palestinian home, annihilating a family, murdering an 18-month-old boy and his father, burning his mother over 90 percent of her body – only to have Israel’s government rule the family ineligible for the financial support and compensation automatically granted Israeli victims of terrorism, settlers included.

I can’t pretend anymore. Not after #Israel’s Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, explicitly declaring stone-throwing to be terrorism, drove the passage of a bill holding stone-throwers liable to up to 20 years in prison.

The law did not specify that it targeted only Palestinian stone-throwers. It didn’t have to.

Just one week later, pro-settlement Jews hurled rocks, furniture, and bottles of urine at Israeli soldiers and police at a West Bank settlement, and in response, Benjamin Netanyahu immediately rewarded the Jewish stone-throwers with a pledge to build hundreds of new settlement homes.

This is what has become of the rule of law. Two sets of books. One for Us, and one to throw at Them. #Apartheid.

On the surface, there may be no apparent parallels between the fictional dystopian world of #Panem and #Israel’s apartheid policies and #settler-colonialism in #Palestine. The structural realities, however, are not that much different. But how did these young Israeli spectators, both civilian and military, decode the images on the screen? Could they have related Panem’s fragmentation into districts to the excruciating realities of the Palestinian cantons and bantustans, or the brutalization of the masses in the fictional and real world for that matter? On whom did they project these images as they witnessed these fictional realities? Witnessing up close the escalating levels of youth racism and violence against Palestinians, African immigrants and other asylum seekers in Israel, the question of the spectators’ sympathy for the victims of oppression and the potential of images of oppression and injustice to spur a revolution, must be tethered to the historical context of production and consumption.

The eulogies for Ariel Sharon in the Western press are comparable to their eulogies of Nelson Mandela. In the US, people on the left and on the right competed to shower praise on the symbol of #Israel’s terrorist right. Israeli terrorism and brutality is portrayed as “strength” and “might,” and CNN invited the Israeli ambassador in the US to write an ostensibly objective eulogy for the man. Ethan Bronner, the former bureau chief of the New York Times in Israel and a former foreign editor of the paper, wrote a long eulogy that can easily be classified within the genre of “love poetry.”
