    #KDE Plasma 6.7 released
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/06/kde-plasma-6-7-released

KDE Plasma 6.7 has been released, and it brings a feature many of its users have been requesting for decades: independent per-screen virtual desktops. The latest stable update also sees a classic KDE theme revived, supports simultaneous HDR and ICC profiles and packs in an assortment of usability, UI and performance tweaks. This release is dedicated to Eric Laffoon, a longtime KDE supporter who passed away in May 2026. Users of the Ubuntu-based KDE Neon and rolling-release distributions like Arch will be able to install Plasma 6.7 in the coming days. Kubuntu 26.04 LTS users should check the Kubuntu Backports […] You’re reading #KDE_Plasma 6.7 released, a blog post from OMG! Ubuntu. Do not reproduce elsewhere without permission.

    #KDE gets €1.2m funding from the #Sovereign_Tech_Fund
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/05/kde-sovereign-tech-fund-grant

KDE has announced it’s getting a €1.28 million grant from the Sovereign Tech Fund (STF) to help improve the Plasma desktop, KDE Linux and the communication frameworks used by both. The German government-backed fund, which sees its work as “strategic investments in the digital infrastructure of our economy and society”, will disburse €1,285,200 ($1,512,680) to KDE across 2026 and 2027. Like all grants the fund provides, the money is earmarked for a specific set of pre-approved projects. KDE developers can’t redirect cash toward the latest feature request gathering upvotes on r/KDE. Work the money will fund includes improving the Plasma […] You’re reading KDE gets €1.2m funding from the Sovereign Tech Fund, a blog post from OMG! Ubuntu.

April 2026 has been and gone, but not before delivering an array of Linux software updates, including new versions of popular FOSS video editor #kdenlive and Oracle’s virtualisation offering #VirtualBox. We also got Firefox 150 with GTK emoji picker support and split tab improvements, and a modest bug fix update to the GIMP image editor, albeit resolving an annoying on-canvas text tool quirk. Below, I list other notable Linux app releases to arrive in April. The update also introduces new components, including on-screen keyboard, login manager and OEM setup wizard. All are offered alternatives rather than replacements. As with GNOME (who ripped the bandaid off in GNOME 49), this change does not mean X11 applications will no longer work in KDE Plasma 6.8. Legacy software will run, as it already does on Wayland, though the Xwayland compatibility layer. But a dedicated Plasma X11 desktop session will not be provided. #kdenlive Devs Planning New Pro Editing Features
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/09/kdenlive-preps-new-pro-editing-features

Developers working on open-source video editor Kdenlive have shared details of upcoming features discussed and worked on at a recent sprint in Berlin, Germany. Among notable changes on the way is a “dopesheet” feature, development of which has been funded by a grant from the NGI Zero Commons Fund (via NLnet) to developer Jean-Baptiste Mardelle. Blender users may be familiar with dopesheets. They make it easier to work with keyframes in edits through a dedicated UI. A new version of Kdenlive, the free, open source video editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux, has been released with improvements its makers hope “give you a pleasant editing experience”. Kdenlive 25.08.0 improves audio mixing. A redesigned sound control board offers “clearer visuals and thresholds” for fine-tuned level tweaking. KDE Plasma 6.4 has received its first point release, which includes an important fix to reduce the risk of inducing seizures in photosensitive users. Now, it’s not like latest KDE desktop was running a disco out of the box, but the ‘highlight window’ effect enabled by default for Task Manager thumbnails might, under a specific workflow, cause enough screen flickering at the frequencies that trigger seizures in susceptible users. Removing backgrounds from video in Kdenlive, the free, open-source video editor for Linux, macOS and Windows, is about to get a whole lot easier. Developers are adding a “modern background removal tool” that uses machine learning to create object masks so you can ‘cut out’ an object, person, or item in a video clip. Real-time background removal features are common in video conferencing/chat apps like Slack. They allow a user to replace their actual backdrop (like a messy kitchen) with an alternative image or, sometimes, even a video clip. Additionally, the editor’s developers have removed support for Qt5 so that, as of this release, it is entirely Qt6. Subtitling gets a big boost with the arrival of Advanced SubStation Alpha (ASS) subtitle support. The key benefit of these subtitles (I’ll swerve calling them ASS) is greater customisation, including things like text strokes, drop shadows, margins, and even effects like masking. #KDE neon Users Can Now Upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04
    ▻https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/10/kde-neon-rebased-on-ubuntu-24-04

    https://149366088.v2.pressablecdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/kde-neon-tile-406x232.jpg

KDE neon users can now upgrade to rebase their systems on #Ubuntu_24.04_LTS. For those unfamiliar with it, #KDE_neon is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution that is something of a reference platform for KDE Plasma. It’s available in User, Testing, Unstable, and Developer editions. KDE neon (User Edition) is the ‘stable’ version but still described as suiting ‘adventurous KDE enthusiasts’ rather than those seeking a rock-solid, totally-reliable distro. KDE neon isn’t tested as a distro as throughly as, say, Kubuntu.
