Le responsable du mouvement palestinien du Jihad islamique, Khader Adnan, poursuit sa grève de la faim illimitée pour le 29e jour consécutif à la prison d’Al-Jalama, en protestation contre sa détention arbitraire par l’occupation israélienne.

Les forces d’occupation israéliennes ont lancé le 5 février une campagne massive de raids et d’incursions en Cisjordanie occupée, au cours de laquelle elles ont kidnappé un certain nombre de Palestiniens, dont des dirigeants du mouvement du Jihad islamique palestinien, parmi lesquels cheikh Khader Adnan.

Le Club des prisonniers palestiniens a déclaré que la santé d’Adnan se détériore fortement, un mois après le début de sa grève, soulignant qu’en plus de sa protestation, le prisonnier refuse de subir tout type d’examen médical, notant qu’il avait déjà des problèmes de santé avant son arrestation et que cela nécessite une attention médicale urgente.

Khader a réussi à faire savoir à l’extérieur de la prison que, en réponse à sa grève de la faim, il a été envoyé mardi dernier devant un nouveau procès tenu interne au centre de détention d’Al-Jalama. (...)

Political prisoner held by Israel, Khader Adnan, 43, has declared a hunger strike the day he was abducted by the soldiers on May 30th, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) stated Tuesday.

The PPS said that Adnan, from Jenin in northern West Bank, is protesting his arbitrary arrest and imprisonment.

It added that the Salem Israeli military court has extended his detention until the seventh of June, although no charges were brought against him yet.

It is worth mentioning that Adnan was abducted and imprisoned by Israel twelve times, spending close to eight years in prison, mostly being held under the arbitrary Administrative Detention orders without charges or trial.

During his repeated imprisonments, the detainee held three hunger strikes, protesting being held under the Administrative Detention orders and being forced into solitary confinement.

In the year 2004, Adnan held a hunger strike for 25 days, followed by 66 days in the year 2012, 54 days in the year 2015, and 58 days in the year 2018.

During the 58-day hunger strike, Adnan’s health seriously deteriorated after he stopped taking supplements that help him survive the long fast. Before ending his strike, he had begun to show serious symptoms such as vomiting blood.

The detainee is a married father of nine children, the youngest is a newborn (just one month old) and the oldest is 13 years of age.

After a 58-day hunger strike which included several days of refusing water as well as food, Khader Adnan has been freed from Israeli prison.

This was Adnan’s third such hunger strike – in 2011 he engaged in a 66-day long hunger strike, and in 2014 he again undertook a ‘hunger strike to the death’ of 55 days. He became a symbol of Palestinian hunger-striking prisoners and their steadfast resistance to the horrific conditions and brutality of Israeli detention facilities.

Adnan has been repeatedly imprisoned by Israeli authorities, who accuse him of being a member of a ‘banned organization’, Islamic Jihad. But he has never been accused of engaging in any violent action or taking part in armed resistance, simply of being considered a ‘security risk’, which has landed him in prison for months and even years at a time without specified charges. He has spent a total of eight years in Israeli prisons.

This most recent imprisonment lasted eleven months, with no charges filed against him. He is one of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held without charges under so-called ‘administrative detention’, in which Israeli authorities imprison Palestinians indefinitely with no charges or access to a legal system of trials and appeals. The Israeli military court in Salem, north of the northern occupied West Bank district of Jenin, sentenced Palestinian detainee Khader Adnan to one year in prison, fined him 1,00 shekels ($270) and 18 months suspended sentence for five years, on Monday.

Jawad Boulous, head of the legal department in the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), said that the prison sentence starts from the day of his arrest on December 11th, 2017.

Adnan, 40, a father of seven children, has been on an open hunger strike for 58 days and even stopped drinking water, as a form of protest against his “arbitrary” detention by Israel.

Despite the sentence, it remained unclear whether Adnan suspended his open hunger strike or not, according to Ma’an.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has reported that detainee Khader Adnan, who has been holding a hunger strike for fifty consecutive days, is facing serious health complications.

The head of the Legal unit of the PPS, attorney Jawad Boulos, said Adnan suffered a very serious weight loss, and is facing constant fatigue, vomiting blood, in addition to having problems in his left eye.

Boulos managed to visit Adnan, Monday, at the Ramla prison, and said the detainee informed him that he is still refusing medical checkups, vitamins and boosters, adding that his strike continues until he is freed again.

Adnan told Boulos that Israel has stripped him of his freedom, yet again, under vague and unrealistic allegations, and added that he is being held under dire conditions in al-Jalama prison.

Adnan also said that the prison administration held him in solitary confinement for seventeen consecutive days in a very small cell, with a broken toilet seat, and filled with bugs and insects.

It is worth mentioning that, in the period between 2012 and this year, 2018, Adnan held three hunger strike demanding an end to his arbitrary Administrative Detention, without charges or trial.

In 2012, Adnan held a hunger strike for 66 days, and in 2015, he went on strike for 54 days.

Adnan, 40, from the northern West Bank governorate of Jenin, spent at least 8.5 years in Israeli prisons, after he was abducted and detained by the soldiers eleven times.

He is a married father of seven children, the oldest, Ma’ali, is ten years of age, and the youngest, Mariam, is only 18 months.

JENIN, January 4, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Monday released former hunger striking prisoner, Khader Adnan, 42, from Araba, southwest of Jenin, after being detained for few hours at a flying military checkpoint near the town of Silwad, east of Ramallah.

Adnan’s family informed WAFA that Israeli soldiers detained him while on his way to offer condolences for Silwad’s Palestinians who were killed under pretext of attacks against Israeli targets, and to participate in a solidarity protest with prisoners at al-Manara Square in Ramallah.

Witnesses told WAFA Israeli soldiers forcefully stopped all vehicles without any prior warning for about 45 minutes and prevented anyone from advancing or turning around.

Adnan was ordered to leave the vehicle he was riding with another man and was taken to an unknown destination.

According to a Palestinian woman who was present during the incident, a taxi driver tried to turn around to avoid being held for a long time, but the soldiers took the taxi’s keys to ensure he waits along.

Although international human rights law requires Israel to respect the right of Palestinians to move about freely in the occupied Palestinian territory, Israel continues to violate their rights to move freely on a daily basis.

L’armée d’occupation a transféré Sheikh Adnan ce matin à l’aube au carrefour Arraba, 12 kms au sud-ouest de Jenin, où il a été remis au côté palestinien. Selon l’agence de presse Ma’an en arabe (*), la libération d’Adnan, 34 ans, a été orchestrée sous des mesures israéliennes de sécurité strictes, sans annonce préalable, pour éviter des festivités publiques de célébration de sa libération. Même sa famille n’avait pas connaissance de l’heure exacte de sa libération.

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) — Israeli forces on Monday evening arrested veteran Palestinian hunger striker Khader Adnan while heading into Jerusalem’s Old City to take part in Laylat al-Qader prayers a day after he was freed from an Israeli prison.

A Ma’an reporter said that Israeli soldiers detained Adnan, 37, at Herod’s Gate at the entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City after it was found he allegedly did not have the correct permits.

He was reportedly taken to the David police station inside the Old City.

The Israeli authorities agreed to release Adnan in the early hours of Sunday after they struck a deal to end a 55-day hunger strike he began in June in protest over the Israeli practice of administrative detention.

Randa Adnan a commencé notre entrevue comme si elle débutait une course, répondant à chaque question de façon complète, parlant rapidement et avec une grande détermination.

Tout en s’occupant de ses enfants - son jeune fils tirant avec force sur son foulard, sa deuxième fille en larmes ayant besoin du réconfort de sa mère - son rythme n’a pas ralenti.

Randa n’a pas beaucoup de temps, nous dit-elle, entre prendre soin de ses cinq enfants en bas âge et assister à des protestations de solidarité avec les prisonniers palestiniens.

Quand j’ai rencontré Randa dans sa maison dans son village près de Jénine en Cisjordanie du nord, son époux, le prisonnier politique palestinien Khader Adnan, avait refusé tous les repas de ses geôliers depuis plus qu’un mois et n’avait montré aucun désir d’interrompre sa grève de la faim.

Cette grève, comme celle qu’il avait suivie en 2012, est la façon de protester d’Adnan contre la détention administrative - une pratique qui permet à Israël de renouveler indéfiniment des périodes de six mois d’internement, le prisonnier étant incarcéré sur des accusations tenues secrètes et sans procès.

La détention de Khader avait déjà été renouvelée deux fois avant qu’il ait commencé une grève de la faim illimitée le 6 mai.

Selon le groupe Addameer de défense des droits des prisonniers, le jour après qu’il ait commencé sa grève de la faim les services pénitentiaires israéliens ont tenu une « audition » à l’intérieur de la prison de Hadarim, où Adnan était incarcéré. Il a été alors décidé que sa punition pour refuser la nourriture serait le refus des visites de sa famille, de l’accès à la cantine pour un mois, et sept jours en isolement.

Plus d’un mois après, il est à l’Hôpital d’Assaf Harofeh dans Tzrifin, en Israël (Palestine d’avant 1948), dans une chambre gardée par trois policiers, menotté à son lit d’hôpital.
