Daily report from #Latakia on Monday 11 June 2012
Shelling was nearly continuous for the most part today in Haffeh and villages, while since morning the town was suffering shortage of bread, food, and medications with power and communications off. FSA were still defending the area bravely and strongly.
A brigade of tanks was spotted tried to raid the town from east near the hospital while army planes were shooting rockets on Haffeh with heavy gunfire also by the hospital. Dfail was shelled by missiles, rockets, and mortar and with tanks and planes. Mortar was also used to shell Bkas and Haffeh from the Latakia-Haffeh road side, and tanks shelled Shirqaqand Haffeh from the Hospital side again.
A serious development was recorded today as regime used internationally banned nail bombs in Haffeh, and clashes took place near Sherdub area in the town.
In Haffeh also five consecutive explosions were heard later near a security branch as regime shelling hit many governmental buildings in the town. Three more explosions were heard as well as gunfire near the hospital, while Shiekh Husamo village was hit using rocket launchers.
We received confirmed news of a UN observer’s team visiting latakia’s governor who is trying to delay their visit to Haffeh.
Upon a call with an FSA officer he confirmed that no Assad gangs are left in Kurds Mountains as many died while 25 soldiers and officers were arrested. Shellef village was however shelled by helicopters today and many army members were seen on Latakia-Aleppo road near Bdama, and a brigade of tanks along with 30 army cars were heading to Kurds Mountains. Regime burned all bushes near Terdine village.
Wounded and victims were many today as well but we were unable to have accurate numbers, let alone not being able to get to some them, due to constant shelling. We however learned that 17 year-old Obada Anjuka died after being shot and Ahmad Ameen died during the shelling.
Activist Muhammad Hasan [Abu-Suhail] died with a rocket right after his call with Al-Jazeera channel explaining the situation in Haffeh.
Most internet connections were off today in latakia in a desperate attempt from the regime to hide as much of the truth as possible.
Security cars were seen roaming around Karama and Hurriah schools to prevent students from protesting after their exams, more security cars were seen in Cornish and Amuda and Mashrou’ al-Slaybeh for the same purpose.
Demos did however take place in Slaybeh, Qalaa, Skantoori, Antakia Street, and twice in al-Raml, in addition to a swift demo in Sheikh Daher followed by an explosion sound in nearby Antakia Street, while more than 3 explosions and gunfire were heard in Slaybeh.
Two brother kids were arrested in Sheikh Daher near Antakia Street; 15 year-old Ahmad Meresh and 10 year-old Nuhammad Meresh.
Ahmad Hasan Azhari was reported dead today under torture in Assad prisons in Damascus after being arrested for four months.
