The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is about the map — who gets what and how much of historic Palestine. US Secretary of State John Kerry may well have an opinion about this — it is hard to believe that he does not — but President Barack Obama’s White House has yet to decide whether to break with the history of the last four decades and draw an American picture of what the states of Israel and Palestine should look like.

No such hesitation is to be found among the Palestine Liberation Organization and its chairman, Mahmoud Abbas, the signatories to the Arab Peace Initiative or members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). They accept the June 4, 1967, border as the line dividing the state of Israel from the yet-to-be-created state of Palestine. They are prepared to consider modifications to this map, the so-called land swaps, not because they want to, but in order to satisfy Israel’s territorial demands over this demarcation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech Monday that he billed as showing “something that the world has never seen.” He vowed to provide evidence of Iran’s duplicity over its nuclear program, and especially its obligations to the nuclear agreement Tehran signed in 2015 with the world’s powers. But much of the speech concerned details of Iran’s covert nuclear program from the years 1999 to 2003, and it provided no smoking-gun evidence that those programs were continuing in violation of the deal—something that would have given Donald Trump’s administration the justification it might be looking for to withdraw from it.

Ce numéro de Pratiques a été pensé en fonction d’une double logique, à la fois historique et synchronique. Pour la première, puisque depuis la création de Pratiques en 1974, des théorisations narratives diverses ont été défendues, il était important de porter sur elles un regard rétrospectif. Pour la seconde, elle correspond au fait que le numéro s’inscrit dans le programme de recherche du Centre de recherche sur les médiations (Crem) intitulé « #Narrations de la société/sociétés de la #narration » tel qu’il est consacré au #récit et aux différentes formes de #narration_sociale. L’enjeu est de faire interagir des recherches qui mettent l’accent sur la description et la classification avec d’autres plus spéculatives et interprétatives.

Le numéro a été conçu en trois parties. Dans la première (« Les théories du récit en débat »), on confronte certains paradigmes du récit. C’est ainsi que sont mis en débat ou en question la #linguistique_textuelle et discursive, la #sémiotique_narrative, l’#ethnocritique, les approches cognitivistes ainsi que la #narratologie non naturelle. Dans la seconde partie (« #Fictions et non fictions contemporaines »), il s’est agi de rendre compte du statut du récit dans les productions actuelles, qu’elles aient la forme de #romans, de pièces de #théâtre, de « #narrations_documentaires », de #séries_télévisées ou de #jeux_vidéo. Quant à la troisième partie (« Les récits en situation scolaire »), elle interroge la place des récits au sein de la discipline français (#lecture et #écriture) et dans d’autres disciplines tels qu’ils dépendent, pour une part, des configurations disciplinaires.

La narration en temps réel est une performance créative qui obéit à un règle simple : une heure qui passe pour un personnage fictif équivaut à une heure qui passe pour le public. Faire correspondre le temps du récit avec le temps de sa consommation n’est pas une idée nouvelle, bon nombre de pièces de théâtre antiques ou classiques avaient déjà adoptées cette contrainte créative.

Le cinéma a très vite redécouvert le temps réel et lui a probablement donné ses incarnations les plus marquantes, de La Corde d’Hitchcock (1948) à la série 24 (2001-2010). Il reste malgré tout une rareté, une performance qui éblouit mais ne saurait être la norme. De nombreuses séries télévisées comme Seinfeld ou X-Files ont ainsi proposé un épisode « événementiel » en temps réel… pour mieux revenir à une formule moins exigeante la semaine suivante.

In 2017, Global Voices and Rising Frames started the Reframed Stories project, an ongoing, participatory digital storytelling initiative that works with community members to analyze data around media representation.

The main objective of the Reframed Stories project is to work with indigenous communities that have been historically excluded or misrepresented in media and to help them see how they are being depicted in the news. The story initiative also provides a platform for discussion about this representation and a place where communities can respond to the coverage from their own perspectives. In the initial phase of this collaboration, the Reframed Stories’ team works with community members to analyze media data and then they create stories together.

Dans un esprit très proche de L’Homme qui marche, les déambulations d’un cartographe humaniste dans le Japon de l’époque d’Edo.

Furari pourrait se traduire par « au hasard », « au gré du vent »…
Tout comme dans L’Homme qui marche, mais avec pour cadre un Japon ancien aujourd’hui disparu, Jirô Taniguchi entraîne son lecteur dans les longues et tranquilles déambulations d’un cinquantenaire dont le nom n’est pas donné mais que tout Japonais devine être Tadataka Inô, célèbre géomètre et cartographe qui, au début du XIXe siècle, établit la première carte du Japon en utilisant des techniques et instruments de mesure modernes. Au hasard de ses intuitions et de son inextinguible curiosité, cet attachant et pittoresque personnage nous initie à la découverte des différents quartiers d’Edo, l’ancien Tôkyô, et de ses mille petits plaisirs. Retiré du monde des affaires mais fidèle à ses réflexes, il arpente, mesure, prend des notes, dessine, tout en laissant libre cours à son goût pour la poésie et à son inépuisable capacité d’émerveillement. Jirô Taniguchi, comme il l’a fait dans Au temps de Botchan avec le célèbre écrivain Sôseki, se glisse dans la tête et le coeur d’un personnage historique, nous faisant ainsi appréhender un regard japonais sur le monde qui touche à l’universel.

Dans Pnine (1957), Nabokov présente son héros éponyme, un russe émigré, fasciné par les objets de la modernité occidentale, sa maladresse signifiant sa condition d’étranger. Dans les pages finales du roman, le seul bien auquel il tient est mis en danger par un objet « bipède » significativement aigu et lourd, leur collusion incarnant les affects engagés par une situation singulière, celle de l’exil. The research project, Traumatized Borders: Reviving subversive narratives of B/order, and Other, studies oral and written trauma narratives at various topographic and symbolic borders in Finnish, Russian, Ukrainian, Estonian and North-American context. The study focuses on the time era from the 1920s to the present day and places the writing and reception of trauma narratives in different historical and cultural contexts. Traumas of the individuals and small communities have often been silenced by the dominating cultural and political discourses. The study seeks to explicate the relationship between the border related trauma narratives and the dominating narratives in five different cultural and historical contexts. The study applies the methods of cultural studies, folklore and literature research and is conducted by researchers from the University of Eastern Finland and University of Tartu.
