Native American Council Offers Amnesty to 240 Million Undocumented Whites | City World News

“We will give Europeans the option to apply for Native Citizenship,” explained Chief Sauti of the Nez Perce tribe.
“Any illegal European who has a criminal record of any sort, minus traffic and parking tickets, will be deported back to their native land. Anybody with contagious diseases like HIV, smallpox, herpes, etc, will not qualify and will also be deported.”
European colonization of North America began in the 16th and 17th centuries, when arrivals from France, Spain and England first established settlements on land that had been occupied by native peoples. Explorers Lewis & Clark further opened up western lands to settlement, which ultimately led to the creation of the Indian reservation system.

Old Color Photos of Native Americans | Paul Ratner
▻http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-ratner/rare-old-color-photos-of-_b_6513044.html
Many of the photographs I found were colored by hand, as color film was only the domain of experimentalists until 1930s (thanks, Kodachrome!) Painting on black and white prints was an art in and of itself, and many of the colorized photos exhibit true talent which preserved for us the truer likeness of the people many a hundred years ago thought were vanishing. Of course, Native Americans have not vanished despite the harrowing efforts of so many. They are growing stronger as a people, but a way of life they left behind is often only found in these photos.
▻http://www.survivalfrance.org/actu/10596

When the 80-minute silent film was screened in October 1920 at the College Theater in Los Angeles, it received raves, with one critic calling it “an original and breathtaking adventure…hardly duplicated before.” But despite favorable reviews, the film was, for some unknown reason, never released. And it was never shown again—that is, until June 10, 2012.

Legislation put forward by Brazil’s re-elected President Dilma Rousseff would open up to 10% of protected areas to mining, writes Luke Parry. The effect would be to gut nature conservation in Brazil, already in a perilous state due to underfunding and growing pressure for the development of mines, dams, farms and plantations.

Nunavut’s “cradle-to-prison” justice system must be reformed to reflect the high number of people in the territory who have been victims of physical and sexual violence, an Inuit land-claim group said Thursday.
“There are few safety nets in place to catch people who are experiencing adversity,” said a report from Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.
“Nunavut’s criminal justice system is often the first stop in a cradle-to-prison pipeline in which people struggling with trauma, mental health disorders or prenatal alcohol exposure are most vulnerable to incarceration.”

There is no more need for the ministry, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told Putin in a meeting this week. According to the cabinet leader, the recent establishment of specialized ministries for the Crimea, the Far East and the North Caucasus has made the Regional Development Ministry superfluous.
With the abolishment of the ministry follows a scattering of ministry responsibilities. Among the ministry’s key areas of work has been issues related to social and economic development of federal subects and municipalities, the High North and the Arctic, as well as minorities and indigenous peoples. The ministry has also been responsible for Russia’s cross-border cooperation programmes with neighboring countries.

Aboriginal women ask Stephen Harper: Am I next?

That’s the question aboriginal women are asking Prime Minister Stephen Harper in a new online campaign to renew pressure on his government to call a national inquiry into murdered and missing indigenous women.
Coming on the heels of Harper’s “sociological phenomenon” blunder, the campaign is the brainchild of Holly Jarrett. She’s the cousin of Loretta Saunders, a 26-year-old Inuit student at Saint Mary’s University who was murdered earlier this year. At the time of her death, Saunders was working on her thesis on murdered and missing aboriginal women.
“She had come through a lot of the same kind of struggles that a lot women affected by colonialism and residential school stuff,” Jarrett told PressProgress Friday, a day after launching the Am I Next campaign.

A:shiwi have always had maps. Names of places within our aboriginal territory have been passed-down from generation to generation, but in the past 500 years we have been re-mapped. What was once known as Sunha:kwin K’yabachu Yalanne is now called the San Francisco Peaks and many people now call Heshoda Ts’in"a... Pescado.
The A:shiwi Map Art Project is an art, language and place name project all in one. The project is intended to be a tool to help Zunis connect to places through artistic renderings of the Zuni cultural landscape. A group of Zuni advisors worked to first decide what not to map then what would be culturally appropriate to include on the maps.
