Les petites plages privatisées de Mr Nabih Berry et consorts... Magnifique article !

The Lebanese coast is almost 220 kilometers long. It should be a source of wealth for Lebanon and a common space for its citizens, as well as provide a competitive advantage on the regional level. Instead, the coast is subject to constant violations, including 1,140 encroachments along the beachfront – an average of 5.18 intrusions per kilometer. Only 73 of those are ‘licensed.’The report estimates the total occupied beach and sea area to be over 2,535,788 square meters, in addition to around 1,356,938 million square meters of ‘licensed’ occupations.

La petite place de Mr Berry:

  • Israel Refuses to Pay for Lebanese Oil Spill | Al Akhbar English

For the sixth time the UN General Assembly issued a resolution condemning Israel and asking it to provide immediate compensation for the oil spill it caused along the Lebanese coast during the July 2006 war.

The resolution passed on November 17, with 157 countries voting in favor, seven against, and three abstained, at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.

The US, which donated 5 million dollars to clean up the spill, voted against the resolution for the sixth consecutive time, as did Canada, Australia, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Nauru, not to mention Israel.
This resolution is a revised draft of five previous resolutions (194/61, 188/62, 211/63, 195/64, 147/65) all issued in the years following Israel’s targeting of oil storage tanks near the Jiyeh electric power plant in the first days of the July 2006 war.

An estimated 15,000 cubic meters of fuel spilled into the sea, contaminating 150 kilometres of Lebanon’s coastline.
