  • Jesus Loves His Church | i read the word

Most of the New Testament’s books are letters (called epistles) and the majority of them are written to churches. These include Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, and possibly 2 John (depending on one’s understanding of “the elect lady and her children”, v. 1). Though classified as a book of prophecy and not an epistle, Revelation is addressed “to the seven churches” (1:11) and contains brief letters to each of them. Our minds out to be impressed that so much of the New Testament is specifically intended for these bodies of the Lord’s people and His obvious care and concern for His church wherever it might be found. These letters serve as encouragement, instruction, correction, exhortation, and motivation for the Lord’s people. As He exercised great interest in the church we can do no less. The church is not of peripheral concern and limited interest. Jesus loved His church and still does. So should we.
