Olympus OM-D E-M5 Preview
►http://www.dpreview.com/previews/olympusem5
With the launch of the E-M5, #Olympus harks back to one of its most fondly-remembered camera systems - the Olympus OM range of 35mm SLRs. The E-M5 is the first camera in an OM-Digital lineup that will run alongside the PEN series and, according to the company, its Four Thirds models. For reasons of clarity, it should be stated that this isn’t a continuation of that line - the OM-D models won’t be SLRs and are based around Micro Four Thirds, not OM lens mounts. However, they do embody the spirit of the much-loved camera line - a small, well-built camera designed for enthusiasts. And, particularly in silver and black form, the E-M5 is one of best looking cameras we’ve encountered in some time.
It would be easy to dismiss the E-M5 as simply an upgraded E-P3 with a built-in viewfinder, but that would be to miss the point somewhat. Looked at another way, the E-M5 appears to be a synthesis of the best bits of recent Olympus cameras. It offers greater capability than the company’s range-topping E-5 DSLR in a compact body with the classic styling of the OM range. It also echoes of the E-620 - the small, photographer-focused camera that, to us, made most sense of the Four Thirds concept. Its magnesium alloy body also manages to incorporate the same extensive weather sealing that the E-5 offered - complementing the similarly-sealed M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm 1:3.5-6.3 EZ lens the company announced in December 2011.

►http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pacific/2011/11/2011112375243814247.html
Michael Woodford, the sacked chief executive of Olympus, is to attend the Japanese company’s board meeting later this week.
Woodford arrived in Tokyo on Wednesday for the first time since losing his job just over five weeks ago for questioning $1.4bn in takeover costs now at the centre of criminal investigations.
The firm said on Monday that a third-party panel it set up to investigate the matter had, so far, found no evidencethat organised crime syndicates or “yakuza” gangsters were involved in the payments.
The panel’s report is due in early December.
Japanese giant #Olympus admits cover-up
►http://english.aljazeera.net//business/2011/11/201111871327860993.html
Olympus, the Tokyo-based camera and medical supplies giant, has admitted to using a series of corporate acquisitions to hide huge losses, after earlier denying any allegations of wrongdoing.
In what has become one of the largest accounting frauds in Japanese history, the company has been hit by the scandal over a $687m payment for financial advice and expensive acquisitions that were not obviously related to its core businesses.
Tsuyoshi Kikukawa, the company’s chairman, resigned abruptly last month in an effort to placate angry shareholders.
In a statement on Tuesday, Olympus did an about-face from its previous position, saying that after appointing an independent panel it had ascertained that the payment and acquisitions had indeed been used to cover up losses on investments dating to the 1990s.
Shares in Olympus plunged 29 per cent to a 16-year low on the basis of the news.

►http://tempsreel.nouvelobs.com/high-tech/20111017.REU0439/olympus-s-effondre-en-bourse-apres-le-renvoi-de-michael-woodfor
