Finally, I was not a good enough JavaScript programmer to get it right the first time, and contrary to what I had hoped, not a single person approached me to talk about the code and architecture of what was actually built. Instead there was a lot of speculation and bitching about things TermKit definitely wasn’t, and hype about future development with no clear path to get there. In short, it pretty much destroyed what little faith I had in the power of collaborative open source development, since TermKit became (at the time) the 5th most watched project on GitHub and nothing useful came out of it that I hadn’t already thought of myself.
That said, I never stopped thinking about it, did rearchitect it in my head, and continued to twiddle with it in my spare time, out of sight of the miserable old gits who call themselves technologists but are clearly just conservative old fucktards who like to crap on other people’s hard work (and/or like to stand by idly waiting for finished products to fall into their laps). I’m pretty sure none of them ever realized just how far this concept could go, and they hated it because they thought it was just an attempt at prettying up the terminal rather than actually melding modern interaction design with the technological underpinnings that can support them. They’re the same people who reduce Apple products to the specs on the side of the box, and never bothered to notice that the reason MacBooks dominate geek conferences is because they have features that actually make life easier

l’avantage de Diaspora sur Seenthis me semble être le caractère distribué de ses serveurs, avec des API publiques de communication entre serveurs, des systèmes d’abonnement etc. Je me demande si, plutôt que de chercher à réinventer cette roue, seenthis ne devrait pas essayer de respecter l’API de Diaspora, pour se fondre dans ce réseau (tout en gardant ses spécificités, notamment l’interface, très agréable) ?
C’est justement ce que je crois. Je trouve que Seenthis a un très gros potentiel qui devrait pouvoir être exploité avec une bonne API. Le décentralisé, c’est bien, mais importe peu « au début ». Par contre, il faut garder à l’idée que c’est une formidable roue de secours pour le jour où le succès devient plus important, et pour permettre à chacun d’être indépendant.
Oui, enfin, comme l’ont découvert les gens de Status.net, le décentralisé, cela ne se fait pas après. Cela se fait dès le début. Un seul problème (toujours pas résolu dans Status.net) : les identificateurs. Comment on fait s’il y a un @Fil sur seenthis.net et un autre sur ump.fr ?
Oui, c’est sûr que c’est plus compliqué de le faire après, surtout si l’application n’a pas été à la base pensée en ce sens, mais il doit toujours y avoir un moyen de faire évoluer les choses dans ce sens. Puis, le décentralisé, c’est top, mais ça n’intéresse que les Geeks. D’ailleurs, y’a un Twitter-like, Tahir, qui est en développement, à surveiller. Pour les identifiants, c’est le problème aussi du décentralisé. On peut tous avoir le même nom sur des nodes différents. Dommage la carte d’ID UMP n’a pas été acceptée par les Sages, sinon, ça aurait été plus simple :P
@NeoSting Attention, il existe des tas de solutions au problème des identificateurs dans un système décentralisé (après tout, le courrier électronique et la messagerie instantanée avec XMPP fonctionnent depuis des années et ça marche). Je veux juste dire qu’il faut y penser. La plupart des concepteurs de rézosocios décentralisés semblent croire que personne n’a réfléchi au problème avant eux et, soit réinventent la roue, soit ignorent superbement les problèmes pratiques.

peut-être que l’adresse locale @fil sur seenthis se transformera de même en adresse globale fil@seenthis.net ; et après tout on se moque, en tant qu’utilisateur, de savoir si notre correspondance est transmise par SMTP, XMPP ou yet another protocole. [ D’ailleurs sur Google+ on peut ajouter des emails à un « cercle », et le site se charge de spammer la personne en question si elle n’a pas un compte G+ ]
(pour le reste, oui, G+ et ses spams à rebondissements, c’est assez lourd)

J’utilise youtube-dl depuis pas mal de temps maintenant, vraiment très pratique.
Concernant downhelper l’extension pour Firefox fonctionne très bien avec Youtube. Je viens de faire un essai à l’instant.
Bizarre. On est plusieurs aujourd’hui pour qui plus rien ne fonctionne. J’en ai testé 3 dont les 2 mentionnés. D’autres ont ce problème aussi sur Chrome. Pour moi, c’est sous Ubuntu, avec des erreurs 403 sur les dl. Mais qu’importe, youtube-dl fonctionne, lui :)
Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon, Firefox 14.0.1, Downhelper 4.9.9 et je confirme que ça fonctionne bien, je viens de refaire un essai. Je n’ai pas de configuration spéciale.

C’est foufoufou. Mais pour ce qui est des ventes, il faut garder à l’esprit qu’elles sont fonction des jeux, mais pas mal aussi du budget communication. Or la Wii a bénéficié durant toute sa vie de campagnes de pub récurrentes. Pour l’instant le monde du libre rechigne pas mal à dépenser son temps et son argent à faire de la publicité (Ai-je déjà vu une pub pour Linux ?) donc son mode de diffusion n’est pas exactement le même.

Some of my neighbours encouraged me to organize a “public bench fabrication day”, which we did this 15 April 2012. Around 12 benches were created that day and placed along the street. Some benches were decorated using pyrography.

Most of the time they are allies - but not always.
I feel the definitions above shed light on why:
– Free Software proponents often prefer licenses which restrict the freedom of the developer, in order to protect the end users from antifeatures and natural monopolies.
– Open Source folks are focused on technical excellence and getting a job done. Talking about ideals and rights becomes a distraction at best.
– Depending on the field, “advancing the state of the art” and “protecting users rights” may be fundamentally incompatible.
– Free Software folks benefit greatly from Open Source, but their ideals and restrictive licenses make them ill equipped to reciprocate.
